I noticed that even when using Transform Velocity to make all of my MIDI In values = 127 Out, I still cannot get the cymbals to crash with the same volume and intensity as when I click them in EZDrummer with the mouse. I haven’t noticed this issue with the drums. Is there some additional way to get the cymbals to crash better?
Hi,
this sounds strange, could you please post a screen shot of the Velocity Curve box with a Cymbal selected?

John,
I seem to be unable to attach the screen recording with sound (.mov file), but here is a screenshot of the curve. All inputs are outputting 127, and regardless of that, it still isn’t the loud crashing cymbal sound I get when clicking the cymbal with my mouse in EZDrummer. Is there a way to also attach or send a .mov file?
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi,
I am sorry but I haven’t been able to reproduce yet. I have tried both starting with the Toontrack Standard MIDI Preset as well as the Alesis Nitro and if I change the Velocity curve to set all incoming notes to 127, they are all full velocity hits as loud as when clicking the cymbals in the interface.
What is your setup? Standalone or DAW? Please elaborate.
BR,
John

John,
I’m running EZDrummer standalone. Here is a video of the issue. The first and last cymbal crashes are me clicking the cymbal in the software, the rest are me striking the cymbal pad at various velocities (all converted to 127 with my transform). Without the transform set, the hits are quieter, corresponding to their velocity. For some reason the max velocity of 127 from MIDI just isn’t triggering the same crash I get when using the mouse in EZDrummer. Any thoughts, or more data that I can provide?
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi,
from what I can hear, you are triggering two different articulations, i.e. when you click the cymbal, you are triggering the ‘Crash’ articulation. When you are triggering from your cymbal pad, you are triggering the ‘Bow Tip’ articulation. If you click the ‘Mapping’ button right next to the ‘Velocity’ button (over the curve box) and then hit your cymbal pad, you will see that it’s another articulation triggering. If you do not have a dual-zone cymbal pad and this isn’t intentional, just switch the note number from the ‘Bow Tip’ on the ‘Crash’ articulation. Do not forget to Save your own MIDI Preset. when you are done tweaking.

Thanked by: talker365John,
That was it! Thanks so much, I was able to edit the mappings for my single zone cymbals and save as a user preset. I really appreciate your time and assistance.
Thanks,
Jeff
can you please explain more specifically how to do what you are suggesting?
” just switch the note number from the ‘Bow Tip’ on the ‘Crash’ articulation.”
I tried changing the number next to “bow tip” to match the number next to “crash”, but when I do this there is no longer any sound when I hit the symbol.
thanks so much!
