Hi all
I saw that multiple people reported issues with cymbals being choked by default in EzDrummer. I unfortunately experience a similar issue right now. We recorded drums through MIDI into StudioOne 5.5. There is no After Touch information in the recording according to what I can see in StudioOne.
Cymbals that are played in quick succession are choked when the whole track is played back from the start. However, if I start the playback from a beat where the cymbal is triggered, it isn’t choked and rings out as it should and it continues to stay that way for all other cymbal hits. I do not change anything else, just the starting point of the playback.
Any ideas what could cause this strange behavior and how I can fix it? Re-installing EzDrummer, Upgrading from version 2 to 3, re-starting the PC didn’t work.
Thanks
Dom
Hi,
would it be possible for you to ZIP archive the project (without any audio files) and attach to a post here?

Hi John
See attached the project. Song
I excluded the media and cache folder, let me know if you need it.
Thanks
Dom
Thanks,
will check. BTW, which Preset are you using in EZD3?

Main Room – Studio Fat
But it’s the same issue with other presets as well, including Original Mix
OK,
some strange is going on in Studio One but I can’t figure out exactly what (at least yet).
When you start the Song and pay attention to what’s happening exactly at Bar 6, you see that something is sent to the EZD3 plug-in from the Track but it isn’t CC4, CC16 or CC18 (which all have lanes in the editor) since you can delete all that data and something is still sent to the plugin.
If I record the MIDI on the Studio One Track to the Song Track in the EZD3 plug-in, I get ‘Choke’ notes on Bar 6 for the Cymbals, some as long as the entire Song. Please see attached Screen Shot:
As you also can see, there’s a mysterious data line running throughout the song in the Studio One Track.
What I did with the recorded MIDI in EZD3, was to remove all the ‘Choke’ notes for the Ride and Crash Cymbals, then I dragged the MIDI back to the Studio One track, starting at Bar 6 again, replacing the previous MIDI on the Track.
I will try to investigate further but my suggestion now is to use this workaround and check with the Presonus Support if they have any clue.

John

Thanked by: Dominik RohnerAmazing, this helped, thank you for the workaround!
I’m also not sure why all cymbals seem to have a choke at Bar 6. I can see it’s the same for other tracks recorded in the same session, so it could also be something strange happening in the recording of the Roland V-Drum.
Should you find anything else, please let me (and others) know! But for now, the workaround is working.
Thank you very much for your support John!
Hi,
my colleague made me observant on the fact that there are note pressure messages on all Cymbal notes in your song, which translates to Choke All in our plug-ins.
You need to go to the ‘Note Controller’ lane in the editor, make sure that ‘Type’ is set to ‘Pressure’, lasso select all Cymbal notes and then drag/trim the Pressure value down to ‘0’.

John
