Cymbal Rings if nudged +2. Is choked if placed on beat 1?

Hi!

Sparse, simple drum track, while learning the new interface… I noticed that sometimes cymbals do not ring if placed on the “1” like you would at the end of a phrase. Superior is not triggering a cymbal catch… it sounds more like the cymbal sample is only allowed to play for a couple of ms. Nudging +1 does nothing, nudging +2 allows it to ring. I am assuming this is a setting/user error, but I am not heavily customized at all… barely begun exploring this plugin. I have a complete and functioning install in pretty much every aspect.

Nudging early is still choked. So something is causing a choke effect somehow?

This occurs in Cubase and in the standalone plugin.

This problem is not caused by side-chain, is independent of kit selection, and is repeatable/not intermittent. I have solo’d tracks to see if something else is happening. I have triggered the sound via a keyboard and entered it via mouse on the grid. Makes no difference.

I’d appreciate suggestions. This stuff sounds fantastic and I’ve been a fan and user since the original ancient Drumkit From Hell.

Hi,

 

this could happen if e.g. your keyboard sends Aftertouch/Pressure and you have inadvertently recorded this to the 1st downbeat.

Please check the Aftertouch lane in the Grid Editor and/or your Cubase track.

Thanks. This was not very obvious to me, as I’m not used to aftertouch being relevant to my process with sequencing drums, but I welcome the control that this offers.

For the benefit of anyone who may come at this similarly uninformed:
This was, in fact, the solution to the problem, and it was a matter of knowing what to look for. You just need to find the aftertouch lane, and you can delete any instance where it’s causing sounds to misbehave. Cymbals ring as intended. Good to have the option of a choke.
