I’ve been having trouble with cymbals choking with EZ Drummer 2 (and 3 as well, but I’m using 2 at the moment). I’m running Digital Performer 11 and inputting midi via a keyboard to enter drum patterns. For some reason I can’t figure out, about half the time when I am recording midi and hit a key for a cymbal hit, it triggers the muted sound rather than the one shot sound. This happens pressing the same key — for example, I’m using the Seventies Rock Camco Toweled kit, and the A2 key is assigned to the Crash cymbal. If I have the track record enabled and hit A2, I get a crash as expected. But when I go to record midi in DP’s sequencer, if I hit A2 it mostly tiggers the muted crash, sometimes the one-shot crash. Velocity and note duration make no difference either way. In the piano roll view of the midi data, if I click an A2 note I get the one-shot crash, but on playback I get the muted crash. Drawing in midi notes directly in the piano roll also doesn’t make a difference. I’m getting it on the ride cymbals as well — seems like it’s just a cymbal thing. I know this has been an issue for other people but so far there doesn’t appear to be a solution that works on my end. Any ideas or things to try are welcome — thanks in advance!
Can you post a soundbite? That would help work out what’s happening. Does it happen with other kits?
You are probably triggering and recording the aftertouch on the keyboard by pressing down on the keyboard when hitting hit. Try releasing your fingers a little quicker from the keyboard.

Thanks for the quick reply! I came in to try and record something this morning, and naturally right now it isn’t doing it, but I’ll bet it will again and I’ll posted whatever I can here. When it happens it’s happening with all the kits.

I looked at the midi data and there is aftertouch on *some*, but not all, of the cymbal hits. I’ll try to release the key more quickly to see if that helps. Last night it seemed like nothing I did playing-wise was making a difference. Thanks for the tip!
