I recently export my first 1 bar drum groove from Cubase AI4 and saved it in the My MIDI directory in ezdrummer. I can audition the groove fine in ezdrummer, my problems start when I try to drag and drop the file into Cubase. Dragging and dropping the grooves that came with ezdrummer works (with the slight hitch that it renames my Cubase track http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=88569).
I created an instrument track in Cubase, assigned ezdrummer as the VST and created a MIDI part. When I try to drag and drop my own MIDI groove into the MIDI part, 2 additional instrument tracks are created, one called ezdrummer01 and the other called EP_F_4F2_FSM. The MIDI lands in the second track, yet no vst instruments are assigned.
If I then drag one of the standard ezdrummer grooves, it works. Auto Dissolve Format 0 is not checked in my Cubase preferences.
This seems like such bizarre behaviour I’d be very impressed if someone knew what was going on here! Maybe I’ll just put it down to Cubase AI4 not being “officially supported”. I was considering upgrading to Cubase Studio 5. Has ezdrummer been tested with that release? There used to be a list of tested DAWs on the toontrack homepage but I can’t find it today…

It’s not really a question of knowing my computer’s passwords. There are none. I’ve never had passwords on anything. When I look in the control panel under “users” it shows my name and describes that account as administrator and there are no other accounts listed. In other words, I don’t use a password to log onto my computer. but in order run a program as an administrator it shows a dialog box that asks who you want to log in as… on the top it shows my name and account which is selected as default, below that you can check the option to run as “the following user” which then gives a drop down box with “administrator” or “xpuser” both of wich also have a text box for entering a password. I’ve tried them blank and with generic things like “admin” or “password” and they all bring up an error message about bad password. But again, the account under my name which I CAN start Cubase with is listed as an administrator.
I have changed the setting as you show in the attachment with the exception of the export and import marker selections because those do not appear. then I shut down and restarted Cubase and there was no change.
Let me try the exporting method….
Hey, All right! I think that works. I think I did it backwords because I already had the multi channel set up so I had to rearrange the new midi track with the old but it’s good. This is a good option too because it lets me compose the drum track the way I had been used to in an instrument track (or 2 or 3) and then just export the whole thing as you suggested when I’m done. Very nice.
Not to be too much of a pain, but is there a way to then convert all of the drum tracks into audio when I am all done that can be manipulated just like any other audio track. That would be cool.
Anyway, thanks for all your help, I cannot get over how amazing EZD has been to work with.
Thanks again,
Douglas

You’d have to solo each track and do an audio export for each drum track. I think there are easier ways with later versions of Cubase as I think you can export multiple channels at once.
In EZD’s big brother, S2, there is a bounce feature that allows for converting all channels to audio wav files at once.

I gotcha. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before I am on to Superior. (Drummers are just so unreliable!!)
thanks again for all your help.
