i’ve owned EZD 2 and SD 2 for a number of years. originally i used them on windows and then re-downloaded and re-authorized the plugins on a mac about 2 years ago. when i did that, i somehow pointed the software to use the existing ezx/sdx soundsets / samples i already had copied to a rather non-standard location from a backup to external hard drive vs go through the pain or downloading and reinstall them.
anyway, after taking about a two year hiatus from recording, i’m finally recording again. so i went online, noticed there was an EZD 2 update, downloaded it and it installed fine. EZD and SD both see all my EZX expansion and SDx kits and they play fine regardless if in standalone mode or as a plugin in my daw Studio One Pro 3.5+.
however, there were 3 additional updates – a pop rock midi update, a latin percussion EZX update and one other update related to EZ2 which is just called “update” and i can’t tell anymore what kind of update it is.
none of these install however. i keep getting the “Config File Error could not read config file” message during the installation process. i’m sort of confused why the actual EZD2 update installer worked fine but none of the pack installers do? how do i fix this?
as i stated above, my midi files and EZX/SDXs are all in a non standard location. i’m not sure if this has anything to do with the install problems but EZD/SD all can find these drum kits and midi so the paths must be known to the parent apps (in SD you obviously specify where to look but in EZD i don’t see any configuration).
fwiw, i have not downloaded, installed or used the local product manager since i never needed it before and thought it would force me to download and reinstall everything from scratch which i don’t want to have to do, especially since i went to the problem of manually organizing all the kits the way i wanted so i could back them up and then reuse them easily without internet download / reinstalls every time i want to change my hardware.
thx
Hi,
my first advice is to download the Product Manager. It sounds like you have made some manual customisations on your computer and to be able to help you, we need some kind of common ground to start from, so to speak.
The PM will not force you to download anything but it would be interesting to see what gets recognised and not.
Is EZdrummer reporting version 2.1.4 in the interface?
Did you manually add the paths to your EZX:s in Superior 2 or did it pick them up automatically?

John

I have the same issue. Just downloaded Twisted Kit. Updated my EZ Drummer 2 install.
“Config File Error could not read config file” for both the EZX and the Twisted Kit update files (2).
OS 10.12.1
Normal install paths.
What’s going on? Doesn’t seem to be an isolated issue.
Hi Steve,
while it may seem so, I am pretty sure that the OP’s problem and yours are not related.
Please try to re-run the EZdrummer 2.1.4 update, then the Full Twisted Kit EZX installer. It’s perfectly normal for update files to not work unless the full product is installed.

Ok, downloading everything again and installing through Product Manager worked.
Thanks John.

PM found three things to update. they all installed fine. the PM didn’t find the update that my online account told me to install b/c it was out of date a couple of days ago for the latin percussion (ie it thinks it is was already updated.. ie says “not download” but “installed”). so right now the PM tells me everything is up to date. yet if i go online to my account, it thinks that the three updates i just made in the PM are still out of date? i tried logging out and back in to make sure there was no race condition.
i don’t know. i guess my toontrack stuff is up to date. why the online and PM are out of sync i don’t know.
PM is more exact, since it actually reads content on your computer, which the web version doesn’t.

John
