Recently I created a chord progression as block chords (whole note) and then I articulated them using the Replace MIDI function. I wanted to just repeat the same block in a later area of the song, but found that some of the chords (though not all) changed in the new block despite the chord name staying the same. In order to get the chord(s) back to how I wanted them in the original clip I had to go into the Grid Editor and change them manually.
Could somebody explain why this happened and how I can make it not happen. It never happened in EZK 1.
Thanks
John B
Uh-oh. Sounds like it could be related to this TT known bug in EZ Bass, which I’ve been waiting nearly 8 months for a fix for. Users over in the EZ Bass forum are reporting weird behaviors in working in the grid editor too. So frustrating.

I think it sucks of Toontrack that it won’t allow you to view or reply to a forum thread unless you own the particular product. I can’t read the above link because I don’t have EZ Bass! And I guess that also means that the bug on both programs will probably not be addressed anytime soon.

Wait, what? You’re a TT customer and you can’t access all their product forums? I know potential buyers can’t access them. Easy to see why they wouldn’t want potential customers to look behind the curtain.
Anyone else know of a company in the plugin/virtual instrument space with this level of a lack of transparency and lack of customer response? For those who can’t see the EZ Bass forum, users are reporting bugs/problems with the grid editor; mine is a TT known issue reported nearly 8 months ago, and I’ve gotten no response. Concerning problems are cropping up in EZK2.
I own a ton (Studio One, Cakewalk, Native Instruments, IK Multimedia, Arturia, Universal Audio, Softube, Soundtoys, SSL etc.) and none of them treat customers like this. When TT products work correctly, they’re great. Love what they do. But when they don’t, seems you’re on your own. So disappointing.

I just tried the steps you outlined and wasn’t able to recreate the issue you are experiencing.
Give us refined steps as to what you did to in order to reproduce this issue. It will help us get a lot closer helping you figure this out as opposed to giving into the FUD and dramatics which aren’t helping.

Hi,
I have also been unable to reproduce, so please follow Jord’s advice and provide us with a recipe.

I cannot now because I went into the MIDI and and corrected it but I will remember for the next time. I’m currently working on a project so it’s quite possible that I will encounter this again but in the simplest terms I created a chord progression using the chord blocks (starting on C) and making them each the chord I wanted. I do not set the key for the entire project (maybe that’s why this is happening). I just start with a block of C chords and make them what I want them to be. Then I wanted to copy and paste that whole block of chords exactly as they were to a spot later in the song/time grid. It copied OK but one of the chords changed by dropping 2 notes a half step. I was able to fix them simply by manually moving them to the proper position, but I used to do this all the time in EZ Keys 1 and this never happened.
Having said that, I love Toontrack and their products and would never want to anger them unduly. I’ve been a user of EZ Keys and EZ Drummer for more than 10 years now and have bought many products (instruments, expansion packs, MIDI packs, etc.) and it just doesn’t make sense to me that a registered user cannot access ALL forums. Suppose I would consider purchasing EZ Mix or EZ Bass some time in the future and just want to see some of the issues some of the current users have with those problems. What is the sense of not letting me access those forums? I ask this out of the utmost respect. Please don’t make this an issue that would make either you or me uncomfortable. I’m just curious. I also apologize for the above comment on the issues not being addressed any time soon. That was not fair of me. Please accept my apology.
Thank you.

Hi John,
what you describe above is one of the things I have tried but without success (or perhaps rather failure) so far. I’l try to come up with some more steps to provoke this issue.
The Request to have access to all Forums as a Toontrack user has been raised earlier and I am pretty sure it is being looked into. I guess it’s some old underlying site scheme making it harder than just ticking a box but I don’t know, just guessing.
BR,
John

Thanked by: Johnbee1I did the steps just as you described. That’s primarily how I work with EZ Keys. I probably don’t get the behaviour you got because I am setting the key and working within it. However, this could be a clue as to what it happening, and depending upon the chords you used, this may determine the nature of the half step you experienced. That may not be a bug in and of itself since EZ Keys may simply be looking at it as borrowed chords and progressions. Might be worth experimenting with.
