    Hi,

while I’m not familiar with the Alesis Surge kit, I am pretty certain that you need to configure the drum module to not have the internal sounds active if you use the module as your sound card/audio interface. In other drum modules, there’s a LOCAL=OFF setting.
Apart from that, you need to go into the Audio/MIDI Setup of EZdrummer 3 and select the surge as the Output for Audio and make sure there’s a check mark in the Surge MIDI input box.

    BR,
    John

i have the same drum kit.  i connect with the midi directly to my Mac and from the Mac headphone jack to my amp.  i did not configure the drum module at all.  Hope this helps.  I plug my headphones directly to the headphone jack on the amp. My issue is that the sounds coming out of the headphones are excellent but i find when i listen without headphones and just listen on the amp speaker the sounds are not as clear.
