You connect as any other midi device and either change the note numbers on the akai to match what’s in SD3 or go to the edrum settings and change the notes there on each drum to match what’s on the akai. I think you would be better looking at the manual as it explains it better than I could.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

    Hi,

do you mean that if you go to ‘Settings > Audio/MIDI Setup > MIDI Device’ the AKAI MPK49 isn’t listed?

If so, please start with checking the connection cable and the drivers for it.
If it is listed, make sure to check the box.

    John

thanks.  i know in the stand-alone it has Audio/MIDI Setup in the menu, but now the plugin version.  I have Studio One Version 4 and opened SD3 as an instrument.  I’m looking at the menu right now and the only options is has under settings are:  General, Keyboard Shortcuts, Metronome, Performance, Libraries/Paths, Auto-Save, Advanced, and MIDI In/E-Drums.

With this said, I’ve set up my Alesis e-drums before, through the “MIDI In/E-Drums > User Preset” menu.   In this menu, Akai is not listed.   I did figure it out though, as somehow, my usb hub disconnected.

You need to choose in studio one and not SD3 when used as a plugin
