I’m on Mac Pro 2013 and whether it is in Pro Tools, or in standalone mode, the UI is pretty laggy. Scrolling the timeline when not playing is quite sluggish, not to mention the playhead refreshes at about 10 frames per second or slower during playback. Interestingly enough, the performance is better on my 2015 Macbook Pro, even though it has same CPU score and a weaker GPU.
I’ve bumped CPU use to 4 but not seeing any changes. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
I’m having the same problem on a PC in Cubase. I’m wondering if it might be my graphics card since it is way outdated. Following for any input on this as I’m interested in the subject!

For Cubase, I did read that changing the CPU use in Superior’s settings to 1 might help.
Hi,
I had the same issue with my MacPro and Cubase 10.5.
Switching the number of cores used up to 2 fixed my problems.

Hi,
I was having a similar issue with SD3 Standalone, after updating to 3.1.7 — the GUI was extremely laggy, as well as long latency times (regardless of buffer-size) – and I tried everything from the usual bag of tricks to correct it – even a reinstall – with no luck.
What finally fixed it for me was turning off auto-save!
(go to “settings” — uncheck “Auto-save in standalone”)
Don’t know why this would have suddenly caused a problem (have been using SD3 since it came out without issue) — but, it is working flawlessly again now.
I’m on a Windows 10 system – but, hope it’s a fix for Mac, too.

Thanked by: Hartmut GawehnHey guys,
I am experiencing extrem gui lags when using SD3 on my Mac Pro 6.1 with Catalina. As soon as I want to scroll through a menu or use an EQ the gui lags are getting extreme and I basically have to make step moves.
Any idea what could be causing this?
I have tried turning off Auto-Save as well as switching the amount of cores used.
Currently I am using it in Standalone Mode but i know that this also happens when used in DAWs.
The GPU I am using is a AMD FirePro D300 2 GB graphics and I have 64GB of Ram.
All libraries are run off of the internal SSD.
Any help would be appreciated.
Go to System Preferences > Displays > Color and select “sRGB IEC61966-2.1.” That should make the graphics much faster. This won’t be needed with the next update of SD3.

I was having exactly the same problem on a fairly new iMac and was beginning to wonder if there was an issue with my graphics card. Changing the colour mode sorted the issue straight away but it’s not as nice to look at.
Looking forward to the next SD3 update to get this fixed!

Yes, I‘ve been using this trick on my late 2015 iMac Retina for years. Reducing the color depth to sRGB really improves the overall performance – not only of SD3 but the whole DAW and pretty much every other software.
It’s a common misconception that the graphics performance of a computer doesn’t really affect audio work. DAWs actually are quite demanding visually (all the meters, scrolling etc.). I made the mistake to buy an iMac without a discrete GPU and I absolutely regret it. The integrated Intel Iris GPU just isn’t up to the task and can cause a lot of very strange and annoying interferences between audio and graphics (for instance CPU spikes, clicks & pops when clicking with a mouse button).
SD 3.2.0 was just released, which makes this color profile workaround unnecessary.

Wow, cool. It really works much better now. Thanks!
However, the “color profile workaround” is still a good trick to improve the overall system performance – especially on Retina Macs without a dedicated graphics card (like my late 2015 21.5″ Retina 4K iMac).
