Hi do you know if it is possible to chain a td 3 onto a td9 via midi to expand my td9 fit with more cymbals to play a bigger kit in sd?
any help gratefully received
Thanks
I use an old product like this since I bought it 10+ years ago. I’m sure there’s a modern device out there that merges two separate 5 pin midi cables into one. I also do this with a TD3 and TD4, works fine…

Yes, of course you can. I currently run a Yamaha main interface because my main snare is a three zone snare, and two “trigger I/O” interfaces. All of my cymbals are on my first trigger I/O and my drum pads, tom’s, floor tom’s, etc. are on the second trigger. I/O. Only the snare and high hat from Yamaha are 3 zone units. All the other pads from Yamaha and Alis are two zone pads,
In SD go to the settings menu, and at the bottom in audio midi set up, the resulting menu will give you your audio device. You’re out channels and your midi device and your midi channel. On midi device, it will show you all of the available midi devices. sometimes you have to rescan if you have disconnected something it may not show up until you plug it back in and rescan.

As far as recording my drums are concerned. I run in standalone mode and only record the audio. I do this by running a second two channel audio interface (Tascam 102i) into a pair of inputs on the main audio interface (Roland 1610) that I use with cubase 10 for recording. On the subject of monitoring, my 1610 has four tabs that I send the outputs to different devices. Tab number #1 is of course used for the DAW. Tab #2 goes to my headphone amp as I play using headphones. I do not use the headphone option in CuBase. The 1610 control panel is always open and visible for me to configure. Each stereo pair have individual panning buttons on each channel. 16 mono or 8 stereo. In SD3 i reverse the output and then I reverse the stereo inputs on the headphone monitoring tab, so that when playback occurs, I get front of house sound. Yet when I am recording I am getting the correct orientation. Left/right drum throne seating position.
Clear as mud right?

In relation to Logic, yes it is clear as mud and somewhat unnecessary.
Logic Pro X allows you to assign multiple MIDI tracks to a software instrument. Each of those tracks can receive their MIDI from a different source. Therefore, you can assign each track to a different kit. You can set both tracks to record at the same time, storing the different MIDI. As long as the MIDI notes are unique, you can map your articulations to them, expanding your drum kit.

Hi Jord
The original question is, how do I connect two drum interfaces.(usb)
The first answer was about using 5 pin din. And seeing as it is five pin, you can Daisy chain multiple devices through that cable to one audio interface, which you connect to in superior drummer, Or your DAW (SD3 vst). I do not know of any drum modules that have 5 pin output any more. Seeing as most drum modules are now USB, I showed him how to connect multiple devices to superior drummer.
I did go on to explain about seating position, and capturing only the audio from a standalone instances, of superior, drummer into my DAW. The playback of the guitar player, singer, etc. and drums will all be at front of house position. If you sit in front of your drums, and you are a right handed person, usually your high hat is on the left. If you don’t reverse these connections in a stand alone situation when you playback your audio Through your DAW the drums sounds will be reversed.
my main point was to be careful about seating position when listening to your project after you record your drums into a DAW with superior drummer in standalone mode,

he specifically asked if it was possible to chain the two units together via midi for the purpose of extra cymbals.
All he has to do is plug, the two brains into the computer and position the extra cymbals along with the current kit and plug them into the other brain. There doesn’t have to be any complicated seating positions.
CoreMIDI is smart enough to recognize the two brains, and can send them as separate signals into logic. it doesn’t have to be complicated

Yeah you’re right I guess I won’t bother giving any helpful tips like if it’s icy outside be careful the front steps are slippery. People can just fall down on their own head and break their own *ass, or helpful tips like don’t put the gasoline can near the fire. !!!!!
