Hey everyone,
I just created a stereo instance of Superior Drummer 3 in Pro Tools (latest version of both). I then created 6 new aux tracks, and routed Kick, Snare, Hats, Toms, OHs, and Ambient channels from the mixer in SD3 to each of the Aux Tracks. So far, so good. If I play the kick, it shows up on the kick channel, etc. I’m routing the Aux channels to a Drum group/bus and then sending that to another aux called “Print.” Routing looks fine.
The problem I’m having is if I play a groove on SD3 (or just play the virtual instrument with my mouse cursor). While I can see each kit piece is routing to the appropriate Aux channel, I can’t solo that channel without still hearing ALL the kit pieces across all channels. Basically, it’s like the Solo button on the Aux channel isn’t soloing that Aux channel. Interestingly, when I mute an aux channel, it “mutes” in the way I would expect. But I would also expect that soloing the kick aux would allow me to hear the kick only. Right now, it lights up the solo button but I can still hear all 6 aux channels even when one channel is soloed. Screenshot attached in case I’m making a mistake somewhere along the line. Thank you!
I assume that what you’re hearing is ‘bleed’ of the other kit pieces
into the mic that you’re soloing.
I have “bleed” turned off. If I do the exact same setup in Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, the “solo” button will mute the rest of the Aux sends and only Solo the one aux. I thought that at first, but it’s not the sound of “bleed.” It’s the full kit coming through…I’ll check the SD3 mixer once again. Thank you and stay tuned!
sorry, I just looked at the screenshot in your original post…
The AUX tracks ‘solo-safed’ and therefore,
they would not be muted if any other track were soloed.
I believe that a recent Pro Tools update made AUX tracks ‘solo-safe’ by default when created.
Hey Scott, can you advise how to change that? Is that a change in the Pro Tools mixer or the SD3 mixer? I’m new to Pro Tools. Thanks,
G
See those Solo Buttons that are slightly grayed out? On PC you would alt or control click them to make them the regular opacity. Not sure what the key is on Mac.

Thanked by: mrpianoI believe that a recent Pro Tools update made AUX tracks ‘solo-safe’ by default when created.
To toggle the ‘solo-safe’ status of any track, ON or OFF,
hold the [CMD](Mac) / [Cntrl](PC) key and click the ‘Solo’ button of that track.
sorry for the delayed response. I’m got called away for a second.
