Hi, I have the same problem with installing the SDX from the Toontrack Product Manager, and it shows an error message like others have it in the forum.

    Error Message

I want to try to install it manually, but the Toontrack sound installer program cannot be run in OS Catalina and shows a forbidden logo.

Can Toontrack engineers create an update for solving this problem as soon as possible? I have tried following some of the given steps, and it is not working. I don’t want to try further, as I don’t want to mess around with the file hierarchy that can lead to another problem. Thank you.

I have moved the download location to a folder directly under my home folder. This helped me install some libraries.

But I still cannot install any SDX library updates. Ultimately if I choose Open In Finder and try to start the update manually  I get an alert message telling me that Sound Updater needs to be updated. I have the same issue when trying to install SD3 library part 2.

Check if you can use the Move Downloads button in Preferences. That may fix it, because if part 2 was still being downloaded when you used Move Downloads last time, it is still in the old location.

Thanks for the response Olof. I rebooted my laptop and tried again and now both part 2 as well as the sdx updates install normally. I have tried rebooting before, so I don’t know what was different this time. Possibly something with the alignment of Mars and Jupiter.

Anyways, all is well now. So I can confirm that, after moving the download location as suggested, EZ Mix, EZ Drummer 2, SD 3 and EZX and SDX libraries and their updates all can be installed on a brand new MacBook Pro that came preinstalled with Catalina.

Wow this is super complicated. We need a hands on – easy to understand – installation guide within Catalina for internal and external hard drive. Catalina is out for almost three months and there is no obvious information on the Toontrack HP that issues might occur. I paid a lot of money for a product which I cannot use with my new laptop. Bad. Please help your customers fast ! Regards Alex

Hello I want to install Catalina but I am seeing a lot of posts in solving problems to do so. I am running Logic Pro X. Sd3 is installed on my HD. The 5 expansion packs are on an external drive. there is a “pathway” directing my computer to the external Hard drive. everything is working correctly. Can I install Catalina without any problems. I have spent a good deal of money with TOONTRACK SD3, easy keys midi packs etc.etc. I have seen Olaf respond to this exact question with a” work around” but I’m not sure if that pertains to me. Quite frankly I get buy but am not that computer savvy. Is there any way I could do a shared screen phone call with some one to insure me going ahead with Catalina? I don’t have time to not being able to continue recording projects..

If your Toontrack products are already installed and updated, there won’t be any problems with them if you upgrade to Catalina.

This workaround does work, I’ve got SD3 up and running on a new iMac with OSX 10.15 with external drive but it is a daunting process.. you have to open every single folder and manually transfer every file from its original folder to its counterpart on the external drive. It’s tedious work especially with the Progressive SDX, and others I’m sure, (lots of folders) and you have to authenticate most of the midi files along the way… just pay very close attention to make sure you get every file in its correct place. First time I tried it SD3 would crash Logic every time I tried to open the plugin but I took my time and worked thru it slowly and its working fine now. Much thanks to the team for posting this workaround, I just couldn’t wait till the installer was fixed, I have sessions to do.

You don’t have to do that..  just grab the whole Folder of the SDX and move to it new location. It ask for you your password. Transfer and point the software to the new location. Done.

Yes, for the main SL_xxxx folder it is that simple, that’s the primary program within each SDX. The problem is with the “updates” after the main installation. Mine had an update for the primary program and a midi update. According to what Olof said in Response to the question of these updates you shouldn’t overwrite the original folders created in the initial installation, but rather copy the files from the update’s folders to the destination folders that were created in the original install.. which makes sense because replacing those folders would wipe out some of the original files installed to them instead of adding the update files. Anyway, this is the way I did it and it took awhile but everything is working great now. Happy New Year to everyone, cheers.

You just update the location in the PM under the product you moved. Once you do that it will update properly. No games.

A new Catalina-compatible sound installer is available now. Just restart Product Manager and it will be used when you install libraries.
