I’m a newb to recording. I just started using REAPER about a year ago. So far, it’s been pretty simple. I have successfully downloaded a dozen or so effects and instrument plugins with mostly no issue. I just got SD3 a couple of weeks ago. For some reason, I cannot get SD3 to show up in my list of plugins in REAPER – which of course means that I cannot record using SD3.
I’m sure it’s user-error. I’ve checked online for something that specifically addresses this – to no avail. Most tutorials start with REAPER already ‘recognizing’ SD3.
I have been putting off asking the Forum – because I didn’t want to be ‘the guy who asks before doing the legwork’. I also don’t want to be ‘the guy who spends hundreds of dollars on something he is unable to use’. Lol.
I throw myself on the mercy of the court. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to work this from ‘the REAPER side’ – or from the ‘Superior Drummer 3 side’?
In SD3 Settings, the Path for Superior Drummer 3 is C:\Program Files (x86)\Toontrack\Superior\Superior Drummer\SL-SuperiorDrummer3
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.
You need to set path to the .dll file not the .exe file.

Thanked by: DrProgNerdLaunch the S3 standalone, open the Help menu and choose Show Plug-In Path. Set that path in the Reaper Preference menu (see pic).

Thanked by: DrProgNerdThank you for your response. It didn’t work. I tried manually keying it into Preferences. REAPER says that I can have multiple paths – but that I need to separate them with a semi-colon. I addded a semi-colon after the existing path – so it looked like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\Toontrack\Superior Drummer 3.dll
I hit Re-Scan>Apply>Ok
I closed REAPER (as I have done every other time I added a new plugin) and re-opened it. Still no SD3
I tried the steps again – without closing it – no SD3
I’m sure it’s simply something I am doing – or did – wrong. The standalone works.
Any other ideas?
C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\Toontrack\
Almost there mate;
Don’t add “Superior Drummer 3.dll” in the path list configuration, just the path;
C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\Toontrack\
Then rescan

Thanked by: DrProgNerdSuccess ……sort of. Original problem solved – new problem(s) present themselves.
Superior Drummer now appears in my plugin options in REAPER…
My stand-alone SD3 (which worked yesterday) – won’t pull up. I get a pop-up *see second attachment* > I click ‘Ok’ then get another pop-up *see third attachment*
If you haven’t run for the hills yet, I commend you.
Did I inadvertently uninstall something? Do I have to re-install SD3 completely?
Thanks again for any attention you’re willing to give to this.

Ok, well the plug in installed. First reboot the machine (I don’t know why… I just always do)
Once it is back up, start up Toontrack Product Manager.
What is the status of the 2 libraries you have?
Have you uninstalled anything? Removed any folders? Are you using a separate drive/SSD for your libraries?

Thanked by: DrProgNerdI rebooted
I ended up having to re-install Product Manager – because I was getting an error message on that too.
SD3 seems to be installed. *see attachment*
The libraries are not installed. *see attachment*
When I try to install them, I don’t have room in my Hard Drive…..but a large chunk of my HD space was used when I installed the libraries originally (?!?!)
Is it possible to have the libraries NOT installed – while simultaneously not being able to install them – because that space is being taken up by them being installed? Lol !!! I’m kidding of course ….sort of.
I’m willing to remove all things Toontrack from my computer and start from scratch – if that would be a fix….even though the install took the better part of a day the last time.
As long as SD3 is registered to my Toontrack account, I wouldn’t lose the product completely – would I? That is to say: I wouldn’t be asked to re-Register my SD3? Or maybe that wouldn’t be necessary. Thoughts?

Well it looks like the the first sounds library of the core library is downloaded (as is Rooms of Hansa) but not installed. Where you download them they are on your drive, but the installer uncompresses some configuration files and then copies all the sound files to your final location. So… I would say you don’t have a big enough drive for this. My initial suggestion would, if you can, get a 1TB SSD that you can connect through at least a USB cable.
Chances are everything is in your Downloads\Toontrack\ folder right now, check and see if I am right. (In Product Manager check Tools > Options, that will tell you where the download files are located)
No you won’t lose your authorizaton codes. As long as you remember your Toontrack login and password.
BTW I know it says I run on MAC, but I also run on Windows for certain things and I have a Windows VM with SD3 installed.

Thanked by: DrProgNerdI had them installed before so – in trying to solve the problem yesterday – I must have inadvertently uninstalled them. I did come across the ‘uninstall’ folders while I was looking at all of the SD3 folders. They asked if I wanted to ‘uninstall’ – and I’m sure I said “no” or ‘cancel’ …..but by now, I’m starting to question my own name – so anything’s possible.
For the purposes of troubleshooting: A.) they WERE installed at some point B.) it is within the realm of possibility that I uninstalled them in error.
The goofy part about the Hard Drive space issue – is that I just had this machine built a few months ago. I have the ‘C’-Drive that is 1 TB SSD. But I also have an additional 2 TB SSD built in. I had a buddy build it for the express purpose of recording with it. I can physically look through the clear panel on my computer and see the 2 TB SSD – but I can’t locate it in my ‘Tools>Settings>Storage’.
You are right about everything being in my ‘Downloads’. *see attached*
Where were the SDXs installed? Was it to the internal or external drive? If you run the first installer for the core library, does it give you an option to install in another location?

That looks good, it’s asking if you want to allow it to install your sound libraries, say yes and continue. What happens next?

What I find curious is that these were installed before – as acknowledged by the Product Manager. If space wasn’t an issue THEN – why would it be NOW? Could it be that the library is already installed in a different location – which is why the space is taken up?
