I cannot save midi mapping in SD3 using “learn note”
As an example I want to change tom 3 to trigger a china , I can achieve this by using “learn note” but cannot save this information as a midi map preset to apply to other kits, as soon as I change kits this midi map is lost, when I restart SD3 there is no user preset for me to load.
In SD2 in mapping I could use “learn”, this mapping would remain as I scrolled through kits, even from SD2 to EZ2 and EZX, and I could also save the preset under PRESETS – MIDI – USER PRESETS so next time I used the program I would not have to go through whole learn process again.
I have even loaded SD2 presets while in SD3 and it loads the correct mapping and even keeps the correct mapping when scrolling through various kits.
I do not want to have to create presets in SD2 for use in SD3, its tedious and hard having to refer to cymbal position etc between 2 programs.
SURELY the ability to save in SD3, as you could in SD2, exists.
Please help

So you change the settings as you gave and then go to the use preset menu and click on save as and give it a name. It definitely does work as I use it all the time
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
LOOK at the screen pic! The Midi Mapping Keys ARE NOT transfering to the setting menu. So I can only save a wrong default Map. Or show me a video were I can see it. I’m not sure you understood the problem. Maybe I’m describing it wrong.
Maybe support can help as I really don’t know what you are doing.

Hi Norbert,
I am pretty sure you are mixing up two different note assignments here.
If you change a note assignment on the drums page, you are making a definitive change to the instrument/articulation meaning it breaks compatibility with Toontrack MIDI and MIDI Presets.
Normally, I would advise against doing it that way unless you have a very special set up kit like e.g. Timpanis laid out across the keyboard.
If you create a MIDI preset on the MIDI In/E-drums page, you create an input transformation map that re-maps incoming notes to the Toontrack Default note assignment, meaning you can load different MIDI presets for different hardware and still be compatible with Toontrack MIDI or other users MIDI.
The resulting MIDI recorded is in other words Toontrack GM extended and can be played back without a preset loaded.
Does this clarify?

next post please
Ok, last attempt. I’m in the Midi In/E-drum Setting. I press “Use Preset”. Now I save it named “Set_01”. No I open another project with another Kit loaded but same number of Toms and Cyms etc. Now I open the Midi in/E-Drum Setting and press “Use Preset” and load from “User Presets” “Set_01”. Nothing happens, nothing changes, no Input-Transformation. What am I doing wrong?
Kind Regards
Hi,
I am sorry but I can’t replicate here. If I save a User MIDI Preset with Input Transforming happening, close SD3/start a new Project and Enable that Preset, it works just as expected. Perhaps you could go into the Presets Menu and select ‘Manage in Finder/Explorer, ZIP archive it and attach to a post here, so we may have a look at it? Alternatively the Project where it is active.

Still not following. So i made a long and drawn out midi mappling process that works for my daw. Dows anyone know how I can pull up the midi maps when i switch libraries?? I made a midi map in a Death library kit and when i pull up my mapping i tried to save it doesnt hit the right drums in Metal Foundry
Hi,
you load it from the same page where you created your custom MIDI map, under User Presets. If you have applied this map to your Default Project, there is also an option to load from Default Project.

Well I’ve been having the same issue saving new medi maps with the updated roland td 50x module, was told it was a know issue when emailed into superior for support. Now I downloaded the update today (3.3.2) and cant even use the learn mapping function now! How did it get worse?! I had no issues prior to updating superior and the td50 modules to td50x. And to the guy saying you save changes in the settings > midi in/edrums tab, you don’t. You make your changes to the mapping there and save under the file tab. That worked perfect when I first starting using superior. Now I cant even relearn the pads. I’m not sure what’s going on. All I can say is I cant use this program for my live edrum set up as it stands. Hope someone at Superior actually listens and fixes this issue.
speaking of learn i cannot understand why the midi learn function does not have a shortcut and its hidden in a very hard spot to get used to. Can somebody make a big button for this or at least under the articulation menu? but a button is more crucial to have. wasn’t this in superior 2? i rememebrr an easy big learn function in S2.
the grid editor is not even usable at all in any advantageous way whatsoever over the grid in a Daw, is visually not clear, logical nor meant for any rapid intuitive drum midi creation, and i dont know what the point of the tracker is over using midi in pro tools to trigger the new hits.
I do not know what happened to this company, what they are doing or who is running things. but the upgrade from S2 to S3 was a very big waste of money to me and probably the pointless upgrade i have ever made in my life. And as i can see, there are many unhappy campers. The company is clearly experiencing issues of some sort.

Hi,
I have tried several times now to load the TD-50x preset, modifying it by ‘Learning’, restarting it and applying my modified preset and it works every time.
Would it be possible for you to screen record when it isn’t working? Are you sure you have ‘Enabled’ Use Preset?
As for Saving the MIDI Preset; yes, you do save MIDI Presets on the MIDI In/E-drums page.
If you save via ‘File > Save As…’ you save the entire Project, ie. the entire state of SD3, so it includes your custom mapping but the idea is that when you have custom made your own preset, you would most likely not want to re-do it every time you start fresh, hence you save the Mapping/Velocity curves/zones, etc. there to be recalled on other projects.
