Sight-reading is really good rhythm practice, so you should ask your drum teacher if you should.

If he can provide MIDI for you Superior Drummer can read that just fine, although you may want to create a preset in SD3 with custom mappings to match his MIDI files.

Can SD3 convert score to MIDI?

I would be an incredibly useful addition!

No it can’t. Not sure how you mean anyway. What format does the score come in?

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

It’ll be something like a PDF. Think it can be called drum score or drum notation.

Essentially, you could get a really complicated part from your favorite drummer, load it into sd3 and play it back slowly so you could follow along…

PDFs are not convertible to MIDI within DAWs.  The require a scanning application to which there are a few. They are mainly electronic documents for reading as far as any score or musical staff goes.

As was mentioned previously, get the MIDI file for SD3 to use. If the teacher created the score in a DAW, they can export the MIDI from the track they generated the score from.

Aye, I can see its not possible in sd3 today…

I found another program that can read pdfs and convert to midi,  but it would be nice if sd3 had this as a feature.

Is there a way to suggest features for upcoming versions of sd?

You can do it with Scan-Score even with a PDF. It will convert to a MusicXML file while all major music programs can deal with.

Not sure how well this will work with drum notation. Need to dig further. Might be easier just to write it yourself then convert.

Theres also https://musescore.org/en – Open source and there are drummers there discussing drum notation. Lots of free plugins to try.

Good luck. Love to know if you get a system that works.
