Hi,
I’m looking to activate a click track in my headphones at the set tempo just to practice some rudiments around my edrums.
Is the only way to do so by starting playback of the drum track at the bottom? Seems weird to see the time indicator start to move down the track when I’m not recording or playing back a midi groove. Just looking to practice to a click.
Is there a way to just get a click? Or is this the only way to do it?
I haven’t found a way to do that. What I’m currently doing is use the metronome on my module, by routing the headphone signal to a small mixer that combines it with the SD3 output from my computer. Added benefit is that I can change tempo/time signature quickly on the module, and use the built-in “rhythm coach” functionality.

Sounds like this should be on the FEATURE REQUEST for 3.1.8 or whatever next release is!
Thanks for your input. I suppose in my case, I could do something similar to you, which is to start the click on my TD-20, connect an audio out from the module into my Scarlett’s input (which also processes the audio out of SD3 in my laptop)… and in theory get a similar result to you. Not ideal but a workaround until they build this in…which they really should. Drummer 101 – a click for rehearsing!
I should add that in my case this is also the more practical solution because my laptop sits in a rack 6 feet away, so getting up to change the BPM gets old pretty quickly.

LOL – yeah thats an entire other thing – i find it hard to find a good place for the module AND a good place for the laptop!
If your laptop is that far, I’m guessing you don’t generally change your kits in SD3 much when you play? Or have you figured out a way to advance to the next preset using a foot switch or something? (other FEATURE REQUEST)
In standalone, I mostly play the Premier (Massenburg) preset, and sometimes the Pearl or the Yamaha. I prefer to play something that sounds natural and unprocessed, and I find all the specialized mixer-based presets rather distracting — although useful for mixing!
For use as a plugin (in Logic, in my case) I have created plugin presets with different kits/configs, that I can change remotely using the Logic Remote app on my iPhone/iPad.
As an aside, this is a very useful and affordable laptop stand that you could fit next to your kit.

Thanked by: metrosuperstarGreat idea about creating presets in the DAW, though using SD3 as a plugin inside Cubase means having it installed on another computer AND making sure I have the dongle plugged in. Ugh… I hope they will implement some kind of MIDI controller functionality to change the loaded kits.
I’ll keep in mind the idea of creating presets inside the DAW – Steinberg just released Cubasis so I could get that for the same cost as a switch pedal.
Or this could maybe justify me getting a LoupeDeck or StreamDeck…
The way I look at it, all I need is one single kit that I enjoy playing live. If I need a track for a recording, I can play it live and then spend literally hours upon hours futzing around within SD3 getting the kit pieces and the mix just right. It’s not like I have multiple acoustic kits to switch out on a moment’s notice.
