It’s meant to silence any lingering notes that have been already hit, such as a cymbal. If you either hit a new note or play a groove, any notes after you pressed the X key are going to play. That sounds like it’s pretty much intended.

Not sure if it is intended as a mute button or if it just sends a “all note off” command. In which case it sounds like it may be working as advertised. You may be expecting it to working like a master mute on the mixer.

yes, that’s what I was expecting. Curious, how would you use it in practise?

The “all notes off” command is really used to mute stuck notes played from a keyboard controller. Or any controller for that matter. Occasionally notes will hang and not get a note off command, not a big deal for drum sounds which naturally end, but sounds with long sustains (like string) will hang until you hit the panic (x) button. Not really an issue with drum sounds.

so basically it’s handy if you’re working from a midi controller, it’s not used as a sound shaping tool like an envelope would be to maybe cut off a cymbal?

    Hi,

think of it as an All Notes Off.
Selecting an Instrument or Mixer channel and hitting the ‘M’ key is your traditional Mute; either the Instrument or the channel.

I think Mick’s description of the MIDI panic button better describes it. 😀

We added this feature since it became more necessary when using the new Orchestral SDX. Some of the orchestral sounds ring for many seconds, and can get annoying, for example when previewing sounds in the Search for Instrument browser.
