Will this be fixed in the upcoming new version?

    EZBass v1.1.8
    SD3 v3.3.6
    EZKeys v2.05
    Windows-10Pro (ex Windows-11Pro user)
    Nuendo-12.0.70
    Roland TD-20X

When it is re-opened and SD3 is launched it is back to ‘Untitled’ again.

I’ll have a look at this. But notice that when you save a project in Nuendo, a separate Superior Drummer 3 project file isn’t saved automatically. The Superior Drummer 3 project is saved within the Nuendo save file.

After saving the SD3 project in SD3 and then saving the Nuendo project, I would expect that the correct SD3 project would be opened the next time the same Nuendo project and SD3 plugin are opened.  As it stands now, whenever the SD3 plugin is opened it defaults to a ‘Default’ project, so every time I have to go and select the correct project from the top of the SD3 ‘Open Recent’ list. This should not be necessary.

Just following on from the previous OP, has this been fixed yet and what steps need to be taken so that when I save a project in Cubase including lots of work done on SD3.2.7 that the saved SD3 file opens inside the Cubase project instead of ‘Untitled’ for SD3?  It is of course possible to go back and open from in the SD3 Project drop down but it can become confusing when trying to do work over an album-size project!  It would be really nice to know that when I come back to a song that the correct SD3 file opens up with the Cubase Project.  Would it be possible to streamline the saving process in SD3 so that it fits conveniently into a busy workflow please?  Or does this already happen but every time an instance of SD3 is opened it just calls itself – Project Untitled? And then has to be renamed/saved as?

    Many thanks,

    Afunja Music

The SD3 data is saved in the Cubase project. You shouldn’t have to load/save projects inside SD3 except for exporting/importing between instances/hosts (or when using the standalone).

    Thank you Olof,

So I should not worry if the Project File is named ‘Untitled/Default’ when I open the Cubase project?  Where is the SD3 data actually saved when the Cubase Project is saved?

It does seem to be the correct SD3 data file that I was working on that opens when I reopen the Cubase Project, but it is just a little alarming that the name I saved does not come up when I look in the SD3 Drums/Grooves/Mixer/Tracker window.  I guess that saving the SD3 project file with a relevant project name to my chosen folder functions as a backup?

So my SD3 work remains safely tucked into the Cubase Project file when I save in Cubase?  I think it is a bit disconcerting for SD3 newbies when we are used to the very tight way that Cubase file management works to have a more flexible approach to Project file management in SD3.  Not a problem if this is the way it consistently works, and I don’t need to panic when I don’t see the file name that I saved in the SD3 window!

    All best to you.

Exactly. A DAW/host like Cubase needs to preserve the state of each plug-in in its projects, so when it is about to save, it asks each plug-in for a chunk of data to save in the project. When the project is loaded, the plug-ins will be fed that same data, so that they can restore their states. The plug-ins don’t need to know how or where the data was stored.

Saving SD3 projects when SD3 is used inside a DAW is like an optional feature, which can be used for saving a backup or for exporting to other SD3 instances/projects/hosts. (…Though for backup, you could just as well backup the Cubase project although it would probably take more space.)

Yes Cubase definitely preserves the instrument state and it does say untitled. It’s always been like this. If you have made adjustments in SD3 and want to keep so you can use in other projects then you do need to save in SD3 as well.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
