I have a project with a single track in it. So I click the [Track] tab and select ‘Export Song as Audio File(s)’.
Then, on the [Bounce] General tab only ’24’bit’ is selected.
On the [Advanced] tab only [Bounce Output Channels] is selected – all other options are NOT selected. So I only want the stereo Output files.
When the audio files are exported, the system creates at least 30 large files that are deleted at the end of the process, leaving only the desired ‘OUT_’ stereo files.
See attached pic.
My question is why are these seemingly unnecessary files created? – They could be a problem if I were to be short of disk space.

Bouncing with any audio production app will either consume a ton of RAM or disk space to render. large A good audio production app should have lots of both. Considering that a footprint for a preset can be rather large with lots of channels, probably the best spot is to use the drive.

Thanked by: Henrik EkblomLike Bear-Faced Cow was explaining; if the access speed of the files isn’t crucial (like when playing back a sample it’s important that it’s accessed immediately so no latency is inserted) it’s generally better to use disk space instead of RAM.

Thanks.
So are these just temporary files used to construct the stereo pairs?
I would have imagined that as the stereo outputs already exist and are audible, simply creating audio files from them would be far easier than creating a load of separate files on disk from the individual components of those outputs and then combining them into stereo pairs. It just seems odd to me.

No.
Those are the intermediate result of the sampler for each mic. Those files are then streamed through the mixer to give you the Output files.

Well, most hosts should be able to bounce to disk if you just want the same rendering of SD3 as on-line. The built-in bounce in SD3 is primarily there to allow you to use all bleed without using more RAM than you have.
