Hey there, big fan of SD3, I own Metal machinery and Metal foundry SDX as of now.
I have a strange request to make for possible future SDX epansion packs…
I can obtain KILLER sounds with the ones I have already and I think they are really good. (will be getting the Death & Darkness sooner or later)
But sometimes I wish they were less “perfect”, if you know what I mean, I often find myself thinking I would like some “dirt” mode SDX’s,
like drums recorded with SM57’s, through less audiophile preamps, you know more like you’d find in smaller studios. I’m not talking about crappy sounds but something a little more edgy, without the big world class rooms and ambience and uber-perfect captation 100% through high end gear. Something that is a little dirty from the get go.
The current libraries I have are so perfect that’s I just can’t for f-sake make them mean and dirty…they just always end up super clean and huge
Some projects, like more “underground” styles of metal, would be really fun to mix with drumsets and samples that fit the genre.
Of course I could seek those somewhere else, or make my own, but I have no desire nor time to do so, and I really like my workflow with SD3.
So yeah, there’s that. Am I alone in this situation ?
I have the black metal expansion pack that does seem somewhat less polished, fwiw. But I’m with you.
Sounds like you need a lesson in using processing or for someone to get a few more presets together in this direction.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Agreed! “Dirtying” drums is by far the easiest to do. Not to mention a few options within SD3 for different effects.
