I got a lower tier V-drum kit from Roland not too long ago. Using it with EZDrummer 2, while the EZD stuff sounds better in terms of the individual drum sounds, the response, to me, is way inferior to the native kits/brain.
What I mean is, the lightest tap is on the snare or whatever, using the TD-1 module (the V-drum brain), produces a very light snare tap. They get gradually louder as you hit louder, in a seemingly perfectly linear way.
Running through EZD, however, I jump from no sound at all to pretty damn loud.
It’s like that with all the drums. Even when I turn the compressor channel in the mixer off/mute, it’s still just not quite right. Basically, everything seems too lound most of the time, and there are sometimes noticeable jumps between a hit at x “velocity” and something just slightly louder/softer.
I have Superior as well, have not tried running through that yet. Superior has velocity curves, perhaps they help with this kinda stuff. Anything to be done in EZD, or anyone have thoughts? Thanks.
Hi,
if you record from your module and inspect the recorded MIDI, are the hits and the curve as smooth and even as you experience with the internal sounds?
Which EZdrummer 2 version is reported in the interface?
And you are using the ‘Roland’ MIDI Preset in the EZdrummer 2 standalone?

Hmmm. How would I record from the module? Wouldn’t that involve going through something like EZD, therefore being “interpreted” by EZD?

Yes, standalone (I have Logic too but didn’t see the point in going through it just play vs recording). Roland preset seems to help (maybe my imagination). You meant under MIDI mapping right?
Also messed with response curve for hat, put it on more closed setting. Seems to help. Still maybe a little weird but better.
will report back if still bothering me.
