I’m re-examining where I have my SD3 libraries installed. I have most installed to a non-system internal drive (c: is OS, E: is where SSD3 libraries are).
I ran out of space there so my most recent library (Legacy of Rock) I had to install on the system disk (c:). Am I remembering correctly that this is not optimal? I thought about it because I did notice intermittent hiccups when recording new drum parts using that library and I don’t recall ever having issues before so I thought maybe that was why.
So now I’m wondering if I should get a new bigger disk that can hold all the libraries. Would and external work well, or should I replace my e: with a larger internal?
Or should it theoretically be fine on the c: system drive? Thanks!
Any modern external drive would be ok for the librarys. The only thing this external drive has to to is loading the set to the RAM.

Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.2.3
Operating system: macOS Mojave (10.14)
Which means you’re far better off with the lightning fast read speeds of an SSD drives.

Well, sure an SSD is better/faster.
The question is: Is it worth the extra money?
My workflow: I start my project where SD3 is involved. Depending on the kit, it takes a while to load from the hard disk to the RAM. In my actual session a big kit from Rooms of Hansa will take 60 seconds. (around 5 GB).
Now i´m ready to work on the song.
Now the 2 alternatives:
Any of this solutions will be faster. How much faster? I don´t know.
An external SSD 4 TB is around 450 Bucks. An internal 4 TB for my Macbook would be 1200 €. My 4 TB LaCie is about 136,- €.
I now use an M.2 drive for samples as these are a lot faster than ssd drives. It makes a difference to me as I want my kits to load fast as I,m trying them out. With M.2 a huge kit loads in a couple of seconds
