So, in the Grid Editor, there are 2 tools available. They are located at the top  left in the Grid Editor. The regular Pointer Tool for moving notes and the Pencil Tool for adding hits. The arrow tool can be instantly changed to the Pencil tool by pressing Command + Option (Mac) on your keyboard (Alt+Control PC). See the link below to the section of the manual for more details on the Grid Editor.

Also, see the video walk-through of the Grid Editor.

As to your second question, if you’re going to have MIDI on the S3 Song Track you’ll need to move them on the Song Track. Moving things in your DAW won’t move them in the S3 Song Track automatically. You’ll need to move them manually. If you want, you can drag MIDI from the S3 Song Track onto your DAW MIDI Track and use your DAW MIDI Editor instead of the S3 MIDI Editor. It’s one or the other. If you prefer your DAW editor, and also have MIDI on the S3 Song Track, make sure you disable Follow Host in S3 so you won’t have 2 versions of MIDI playing at the same time.
