Aside from the fact that whatever you are playing it through is heavily compressing it (note your audio vs a raw bounced clip of the solo’d kick from SD3), you are also working with a kick that has a resonator head on, which is how it sounds when sampled. This kick has more the John Bonham type of feel if you are going for a rock type of sound. If you want something a little tighter, then there are other kicks that fit the bill.

How about some details about your example. Preset name, kick name, audio interface, playback settings, etc…? Have you listened to any of the kit demos before jumping in and buying SD3? They sound pretty good. Your example is confusing because it seems to get worse as the file plays down. If the MIDI info is a loop it should not change over time. There are a lot of people who swear by SD3, I don’t hear many that swear at it. Something doesn’t sound right with your rig. Give us more info so folks here can help you solve this.

How clean? That doesn’t sound clean. Sounds like room mics, bleed samples, the works.

It also sounds distorted and compressed beyond belief.

What kick drum is it? From what library? I have had no trouble getting a solo close mic kick sound from SD3.

You could save your SD3 preset and attach it in a reply.

It sounds like a Ludwig kick to me.
