Audio too quiet with TD27

So I can’t seem to get the audio through Superior Drummer 3 to come close to the volume of my TD27 just by itself with headphones. I’m running SD3 through Cubase, I’ve tried turning the channel volume to max in Cubase, as well as maxing out the db levels and turning off the velocity curve in SD3. These things help but the volume is still not loud enough.

I’ve tried both setups:

– using the TD27 as a VST with ASIO drivers in Cubase and plugging my headphones into my computer.

-using the TD27 as the audio driver and running the signal out of the TD27 (with USB mode in Vendor and Local Control turned off) and plugging my headphones into the TD27.

Either way its too quiet. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Do a search as this has been asked many times. SD3 has its own volume control bottom right but setting up the module triggers is the first step. All Roland modules are very forgiving with trigger values but SD3 will only use what it is sent from the module.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

You need a headphone amp. 

Or, you know, you could get fancy and get a full-blown audio interface. But your problem is that the sound out of your computer is nowhere near as loud as the sound coming out of the module. That’s because the headphone output of the TD27 is amplified, and the output from your computer is not.

If you need additional Sound In into your computer, an audio interface is the way to go. It will also have much better Sound Out options (speakers and/or headphones.)

But if you don’t care about all that, and all you want is a cheap, quick fix, get a simple headphone amp. You can get perfectly good ones, with 4 outputs, for roughly 20 bucks on Amazon. Good luck.

(Do not change anything on your TD27. Do not change levels or curves in SD3. Those are all fine. Get a headphone amp.)
