Hi guys,
Just recently downloaded latest SD3 upgrades, and have noticed I’m now getting red error message at bottom of pane saying “Audio engine inactive, check your audio device” when changing drum voices e.g. changing from a Ludwig Coliseum to Tama Brass? I’ve not had this issue before, and whilst the message is coming up, all samples loaded are working fine?
Any suggestions as to why this is suddenly happening would be cool!
Thanks
Dave

Same problem here since day one, in standalone mode only though. Happens every few minutes. As VST in Cubase everything’s working fine.
Did enyone solve this?
I had this issue using Reaper. I fixed it by resetting Reaper to default settings.
I am getting the audio engine inactive message too in Pro Tools. It was working when I first got it a few weeks ago. I have all the updates installed and have restarted the computer. I’m a guitar player. I don’t know any of this computer stuff dude I just know my $400 software doesn’t work.
Hi JTPinkham,
did anything else change on your PC during these weeks from not seeing the message to now?
It does emit sound as soon as you play the Pro Tools Transport and/or click the drums in the plug-in interface, right?
Which exact Pro Tools version are you on?
Which audio hardware are you using? Does it have a control panel and if so, are there settings in there that control something like releasing the driver when not in use or similar?

I had this same issue, and discovered that the problem seemed to be caused from having the power off on the plugin. Turning the power back on (the button shown in the attached screenshot) resolved the issue for me. Maybe it will help others?
Any update or a fix on this?
Happens almost every time i change in and out of library’s. Using Logic Pro.
Almost a year later… can anybody comment on this issue in Logic Pro? I’m using:
Essentially if I don’t touch my Logic interface for a minute or so, I get the “Audio Engine Inactive” warning, and only when I interact with Logic by pressing Play or something similar does it go away. It didn’t used to do this before (just started a couple weeks ago), and I’ve been using the same specs.
For anyone with Reaper using this as an instrument track, I had this error message suddenly appear out of the blue while I was editing a block. Woe is my stupidity! I think my fat ol’ digits managed to find some key combo that turned off SD3 in the track F/X screen (piccy attached). In the list down the side and the checkboxes next to the name of the effect, I’d managed to uncheck it. Checking it re-enabled SD3 and error is gone! You can probably do this with automation too.
Ihave the same problem when trying reharsal with my band. Using only standalone, but there is not possible to use it when this “Audio engine inactive” happens all the time. Using a roland td30 set for this and have activated this in the preset menu. Using 44.100hz for my apollo x6 with latest drivers also using latest sd3 3.3.3 and 44.100hz
Anyone having a clue what to do?
Is there not anyone of the moderators that have a solution on this problem?
Today we made a reharsal with about 7-8 songs. I think i have to run in to the controlroom at least 20 times to reset sd3 because ”
AUDIO ENGINE INACTIVE” happened so many times. I use only standalone for reharsal. When making music in cubase its no problem with this issue. Only in standalone.
PLZ help
Hi Micke,
since you are experiencing this with the Standalone, my first thought would be to check if you have any kind of Power scheme active? Or anything like ‘release audio driver when inactive’?
Have you created a Support Ticket?

What is your buffer size set to?
I was having that happen when I setup my new PC and found I could use a buffer size of 16 with a sample rate of 96k without clicks or pops. It persisted at 32 as well, but 64 has been stable with a sample rate of 96kHz. I haven’t tried lowering it again to see if it still happens, but will do now out of curiosity… may have been a patch or 2 back.
my buffersize is sat to 64 but i think i can go to 32. samplerate is set to 44.100. “John Rammelt” i think i have steinberg powerscheme active in cubase, in cubase there is no problem with sd3. I have problem only when we reharsal with the band and i use the standalone app. Then i connect the td30 drumset through a midi cable to a midi interface and out from midi interface in to an usbport in my pc. if it could be a problem with powerscheme, how do you suggest i should setup a powerscheme? i havent made a supportticket but i will look at it right away now
/Micke
I am now in my studio and have tried to change samplerate but my problem is still there. I tried different settings in buffersize but nothing helped me.
I would apreciate more ideas to try but i cant find a sollution my self
/Micke
Hi Micke,
It could be an issue with a cable, USB port, USB hub or similar, causing the standalone to lose its connection to the device.
