Hello. I need to get something off my chest: I’ve owned EZ Drummer for many years and have enjoyed the great sounds and
possibilities, but something has struck me over the last few years: whenever I listened to an EXZ demo on the website before buying it,
it had depth and sounded incredible. After buying it, I listened to the samples, and they were okay. I used the libraries for my songs
and recordings, but something always felt off compared to the Toontrack demos. I always thought it was just me. Now I’ve done a direct
A/B comparison with the Singer-Songwriter EXZ, listening to the kits on the website through headphones and then comparing them in my DAW.
The presets in the DAW don’t have the depth and authenticity of the Toontrack audio demos.(The snare has more details in the highs) I’ve tried a lot of changes—more compression,
more overheads, and so on—but the demos still sound more authentic with more depth. Now, here’s my theory: the audio demos are labeled (Raw)
in parentheses, but I think these demos aren’t actually played with samples, but rather as audio files from the drummer’s recording process, played live form the drummer.
You know what i mean?.
I know I can’t prove it, but if that’s the case, I think it’s awful. It’s a kind of fraud, in my opinion.
What do you think about this? And, if anyone from TOontrack is reading this, am I correct in my assumption?
Aside from DAWs not having a sound, it could be a matter of bow it is processed in end. EZ Drummer presets are mix ready, but not fully mixed down. It’s still on you as thr mixer. Also have to remember that the presets themselves are fully adjustable so they may have been tweaked. Last thing to remember is that you are listening to a compressed file over the internet. That drastically changes an audio file.
Demo files are supposed to sound good.
