Hello folks,
First time poster here. There’s one really annoying thing about EZD2 which I’m sure is something I’m doing (or not).
It concerns snare tones. I’m a finger drummer which means I trigger EZD2’s sounds manually from a MIDI controller keyboard. When I’m recording, I prefer to construct drum tracks manually.
The problem is that EZD2’s snare drums are not triggering consistently when I play the keyboard. I actually hear different tones: sometimes it’s normal; sometimes it’s more like a ‘crack’. In a drum track with multiple snare beats the overall tone can vary from beat to beat – almost like hitting two different drums.
I like drums to sound natural but this is too much. In a typical drum track played by a real drummer, there are nuances and dynamics at play obviously – but I really don’t want the sound of the drum itself to change. If this is anything to do with the humanize function then should I turn it off? It’s absolutely ruining my drum tracks. How anyone would actually want this happening is beyond me – it’s certainly not a desirable feature. It doesn’t sound good.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
Dave
Absolutley nothing from anyone Jack. Disappointing. Have you managed to get around the problem in any way?
I use Addictive Drums as well. Don’t see the problem on there. I think Addictive has better sounds but EZDrummer is a much better interface. To be honest I’d rather use EZD.
Just some assumptions because I do not know much at all about your setup.
All EZD2 does is listen for what note you hit and what velocity you hit it at. If I were you, with what little info you have given, I would learn how to control the velocity from the midi controller I’ve chosen to use, or chose a midi controller that can have it’s parameters edited in this fashion. If I insisted that the software should take care of this and not the hardware, I would be considering Superior Drummer 3 instead of EZD2.
Again, no clue what snare, EZX, or hardware you’re using. Slamming 100% velocity with humanize on, on certain EXZ’s or Snare Drums will produce the most non-constant samples coming back. It you set a threshold at 114 as your hardest hit, I assume you would hear a more consistent result. I think a typical drummer hitting as hard as possible on every stroke would not sound consistent as the issue you’re describing. My velocity default is 114 for anything hard hitting, but case sensitive.
If my velocity performance were pro, I would turn off humanize specifically for live drumming (not sequencing). Though for me specifically, that’s never been a solution unless I was using particular EZX.
Hope that helps or at least gets you thinking in a new direction.
