Hi Toontrack Support+Community,
I just activated the Alt-Rock EZX and played it via my Roland TD-17.
Everything good so far, the EZX produces an amazing and natural Sound. ?
Next step was to change Midi Notes of Tom-Pad 3 and 4 trigger the two Timpanies.
Midi-Layout:
Timpani 1: Note 35
Timpani 2: Note 34
> Timpani 1 is triggered perfectly
> Timpani 2 is not triggered, but Rimshot of Tom 2 (Note 78)
The internal rerouting of EZdrummer reroutes input on Note 34 to Note 78!
At first assumed an error in the Roland preset, but apperently all profiles (excl. “NONE” ), reroute input Note 34 to a different Note.
Issue: Timpani 2 cannot be triggered via Edrums as the required Note 34 is always rerouted to something else.
> How can I trigger the timpani 2 (Note 34) via Edrums / Midi-USB?
Thanks for your support!
Regards,
Jan
Hi,
unfortunately it can’t be done with EZdrummer 2, since the there is no alternative mapping to note 34 in the current Roland E-drums mapping AFAICT.
With Superior Drummer 3, it’s not hard at all to customise the mapping for your E-drums but you can’t edit the mapping in EZdrummer 2.
I would recommend putting in a request over at the Requests & Feedback section for an update to the mapping if getting Superior 3 is not an option.

John

Hi John,
Thanks for your message!
I would like to point out that its not only an issue with the Roland mapping preset but with all brands that I checked. Only the “none” preset does not remap note 34.
> So anyone who tries to use the Timpanis via Edrums will run into the same issue.
Would you agree, that this fact points out that the current mapping should be considered as having an Error/Bug? I am trying to point out that from my point of view we need a bug fix rather then a feature request (at least priority vise).
One work around in the meant time could be to program a Drumset on the TD-17 to match the “none” preset.
But this preset seems to have a bad Hi-Hat Pedal articulation. Could that be true that the profiles (Roland vs none) use different algorithm for interpreting the hi-hat pedal signal? If yes, is there a chance to modify the hi-hat pedal algorithm of “none” to match the Roland profile? If yes, I would take the effort to remap my TD-17 and use “none” to make the timpanis work.

I got some input from a colleague:
Hi Jan,
Since EZdrummer 2 is limited in how much custom MIDI mapping you can do we recommend selecting “None” as your E-drum preset and then go to your E-drum Module settings to make sure your pads trigger the notes corresponding with the drum you wish to trigger in EZdrummer. (In this case 34)
One thing to check would be that “Local Control” is turned OFF (> Settings > MIDI) in your Roland module
And then adjust the settings in your module to send each pad/articulation to the corresponding note according to the EZD2 mapping.
Having the E-drum preset dropdown set to “None” would be the way to go to avoid having notes being re-routed by the software.
You can then try and adjust the Hi-Hat Pedal correction in the Menu > Settings > E-Drums window to fit your hi-hat.
For the best experience with E-drums we recommend Superior Drummer 3 as it has more options and can be customized to fit your preferred playing style and mapped to your liking. https://www.toontrack.com/product/superior-drummer-3/
There are some great videos on youtube as well for Roland adjustments directly in the module.

Hi John,
thanks for the feedback!
I just sat down and reprogrammed the drum module to send the notes matching the “none” profile.
For some reason now the Hi-Hat articulation is fine with “none” as well. Probably because Roland is sending different note depending of Hi-hat position. With changing all to 19 and 20 for bow and edge hit, Hi-Hat work great now.
I am happy with this solution. 🙂
Should I anyhow open a ticket to suggest changing the mapping of the EZX to avoid reprogramming of drum-module?
BR Jan
Good, no need to open a ticket, no.
