Adjusting Damping Causes Some Notes To Move

I have watched your animated gif and imported your Midi file into EZbass standalone and also my DAW / VST.

I do not have issues with damping notes, so I cannot replicate this behavior of moving notes.

Can you try to start a new project and then drag & drop your own Midi file on the Song Track and see what will happen?

Otherwise you can also zip and upload your project file (.ezbp) to see if it is corrupt.

(By the way, even if it is just a warm-up, I would set the note length at about -11% to make it sound more real.

Either in the Grid Editor tab on selected notes only, or in the Song Track as an overall block setting.

The damping feature is only available for the complete selected Midi block in the Song Track.)

Hi sorry you couldn’t repro this, as mentioned it is not an issue for me but thought your team should see it.

The issue I think is related to what EZ interprets as the key of the song and individual parts. there was no corruption. I tested again from scratch.

I did bring in the file to the standalone version and it was all wrong again but have adjusted it and this time it plays as it should. You can see in the attached file that I had to change the key of the B part at the end. I still do not understand why adjusting dampening would affect the notes themselves. This is surely a bug.

Regarding the note lengths, a few points:

    1. This was read from my live guitar audio so the note lengths are pretty much exactly as I wanted them. (I do play guitar, bass, and many other instruments quite competently). 🙂
    2. I do understand how the system works and have already done some tutorials on it.
    3. I was however trying to dampen them a bit which is how I came across the problem.
    4. If you want to see my original piece so you can understand this, have a quick look here, it is quite old now and very short: https://youtu.be/rVyXqDBtluw?t=33

    Cheers, P.

Oh, I am just a normal user who has bought EZbass two weeks ago 😉 and my only intention is to help users if I think I can (I have no team).

I mentioned the note length thing briefly, because I feel after converting audio to Midi the little time between fading notes and restriking strings generally (has nothing to do with EZbass) is not respected enough.

    Cool video.

Thanks, I was really just trying to get the issue across to the Toontrack team and to see if anyone else could repro. 🙂

Yeah, this is a bug – damping should only change the damping 🙂

Otherwise you can also zip and upload your project file (.ezbp) to see if it is corrupt.

This is a good tip; if something strange happens (like notes disappearing when increasing Damping), undo and try again. If the bug is still there, undo again and save the EZBass project and upload it to the forum, so we can have a look at what’s going on!

It’s equally useful if you can reproduce the bug, and tell us the steps needed to make it appear.

I’ll check with the coders and we’ll see if we can figure out what’s causing this. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for a great report! This will be fixed in the next version. If you want this to stop happening right now, you can right click on the midi block and de-select the ‘Auto-Adjust Chord Transitions’ option. There is also a setting for the default value of this option in Settings -> General.

Thanks Christoffer, glad to be of help.

I did try various other things to solve this and as mentioned came to the conclusion that it was related to the key.

Not a big issue for me as I use the MIDI in my DAW (Cubase) and use key commands and controllers to do most of my compositions. I think many folks work this way. I have always worked this way with Superior Drummer 1-3 for example.

The built in Grooves are really useful though, for sure.

Thanks again, if I can be of any further assistance please do let me know.

(Aah, now I see why I could not experience the bug. I have “Auto-Adjust Chord Transitions” turned off.)
