    Hi,

you cannot have two different Instruments sharing the same MIDI note.

HOWEVER, you can Stack instruments and have the stacked instruments routed to their own mixer channels/outputs which in practice will be about the same.

    Cool.

But; can you also stack (let’s say) a hihat with a new SD hihat including all of it’s articulations? Instead of going through the process of stacking for every single articulation.

No, that’s not possible in one go.

If the purpose is to listen to how another instrument sounds in its place, why don’t you simply select the Hi-Hat, hit Alt+R and then select another Hi-Hat in the list and click ‘Replace’ in the list? You can always Undo or revert back if you do not like it.

    That’s really a shame I think. 🙁

My end goal is being able to quickly layer sounds on top of each other. For the same reason some people like to layer up to 10 snares to make 1 fat snare sound. Or 5 kick sounds to create 1 big/fat kick. Just 2 quick examples.

I think that’s not that strange in modern production and it would be a huuuge feature for an updated SD version.

I mean, you guys are giving the user the option to layer sounds on top of each other, so you do see the value in layering. But only on an articulation level. Why not make that a little bit easier? Either by letting a new added instrument follow the midi notes from another instrument, OR, making layering with all articulations included way more easy. Both options would be a solution for my problem, and I think a lot of modern producers would agree.

Just to add; I love the fact that SD is so detailed and that there are sooo many different articulations that you guys have recorded. That’s absolutely awesome and one of the many reason I truly love SD. But when it comes to having to layer on an articulation level, all these different articulations become a real pain in the … 😉

Well, I’m not a programmer but I can imagine there’s a significant difference when it comes to hi-hats, since there is all the special handling of them with regards to transmuting, all different articulations and open stages and making this work across all microphones, etc.

Most libraries differ when it comes to available articulations, e.g. the hi-hat in the Rooms of Hansa has got 27 different articulations and the hi-hat in the Dark Matter EZX has got 12.

Not saying I think that you have an unreasonable request, I would like it to be able to “auto-Stack” an Instrument with all articulations for other instruments like Snare as well, but I guess it will take some significant work to be able to make stacking hi-hats with all available articulations  in one go a reality.

Please feel free to post this as a request in the Requests & Feedback section.

    BR,
    John
