This is the response I got from Toontrack in September when I emailed them about 64 bit support in DT:

We are no where near releasing a 64 bit version of Drumtracker I’m afraid. Sometimes 32 bit applications works just fine in 64 bit environments however.

Talk about having your finger on the pulse… you’d think they’d realise their own product doesn’t work wouldn’t you? Not impressed.

Drumtracker has never been advertised as a 64-bit application though.

That wasn’t the issue John – talk about burying your head in the sand!  Win7 has been out for over a year, Digidesign have recently dropped support for XP and you STILL don’t expect people to upgrade to 64bit?! There’s no reason (other than using Drumtracker it seems) to stay with a 32bit OS when upgrading to Win7.

Can we just have a straight answer so we can move on if needed – are you going to make DT 64bit compatible and if so can you give us a time frame, that’s all we want to know!  Thanks.

What I think John meant was, when using a 64 bit OS, you can in fact use 32bit programs just fine. It is not like Drumtracker uses anything but WAV and MIDI files. It doesn’t hook up via rewire or VST/AU or anything of the sort. You’ll be able to use it just fine for those spefic reasons. I have a feeling that a brand new version of Drumtracker is in the works cause I bought this version and have been VERY disappointed by it. And yes I own almost ALL the Toontrack products. But drumtracker is buggy and doesn’t work the way it should in general or better yet work well.

Patience dude. 32 bit has it’s place. I’d rather them focus their efforts on a new version the port it to 64bit

    Just my opinion,

Er… you are correct; some 32bit programs do work under 64bit – unfortunately Drumtracker isn’t one of them – hence the OP’s question!!! …and why I was so annoyed with the reply I got from Toontrack support via my email quoted above. I’d already stated that I knew DT didn’t work in 64bit so what’s the point in telling me (twice now!) that some 32bit programs work under 64bit when even they state DT doesn’t in the FAQ!

Other than yet – yep, I’d have no problems with a completely new version (even if there was a modest upgrade fee) as long as it worked; we’d just like to know a timeframe that’s all.

ok…….64 bit is not necessary but at least a 32bit version that works in Win7 64 bit…….
every time I use DT I must reboot the system and most of the time the rebooting freeze, I have to close Windows pushing the button, wait for the new start up and then reboot it again otherwise even other softwares start having issues………..very very annoing

no, the FAQ does not state this at all – it states that we don’t support it, which is hardly the same thing 😉

… Drumtracker works as expected on no less that five 64-bit systems (Vista and Win7) I have tried it on, personally. The most likely is that DT takes issue with your sound card driver, which may or may not be a shortcoming at the application end. Try with an alternative card if you have one available.

And if nothing works then, yes, you’ll have to wait for us to deliver a 64-bit version, which as has been hinted is in the work and is much more than a mere ‘port’. The reason for this is that when we looked at various part of the code and algorithms it seemed a much more worthwhile option to start work on a complete overhaul.

As to what that means in term of time frame, we cannot say as these things don’t happen overnight. Cost wise, for existing Drumtracker users, no decision has been made but as old time customers will know our upgrade paths are always very reasonable (the few dissenting voices of people who want everything for free notwithstanding, of course).

So, yes, we feel your pain, but it will be worth the wait… the important thing to stress is that work is well under way and there is no way the product will be ‘canned’, as seem to be the main concern here.

Don’t try getting out of it on a technicality! 😉

Thanks for the informative reply – that’s all we were asking for TBH.

Great news to hear you’re working on it & hopefully it’ll be done sooner rather than later. As I previously stated, I have no problems with paying a modest fee for an upgrade as long as the thing works!
