EZ Bass – AT LAST!

I have been annoying the developers at Toontrack for years telling them that their product line was missing a bass guitar composition tool like EZ Keys or EZ Drummer – reasoning that the song construction / pattern selection would have to be considerably easier to accomplish than it was with chords in a piano application like EZ Keys, and further, that this much needed bass guitar item does not seem to exist anywhere in the market (unless you count loops – which I don’t).

Finally, my prayers have been answered and they are releasing EZ Bass this year. Hopefully, it comes with a large and ever-expanding MIDI pattern library.

(Side note: I always ended my emails with the suggestion that I should get this product free of charge for continuously nagging them about the idea, but I am graciously willing to forgo this claim and pay full price for the product – I am just so glad to see it coming!)

Long overdue and very welcome.

EZ Bass questions

I am happy to see EZ Bass is finally coming.

I use Ample Sound bass guitar products at the moment. I love the sound of them, and they have gotten quite flexible, and slightly more intuitive over time. That said I am also a big Toontrack user, so I am already interested in EZ bass as I expect stellar sound, a great interface with flexibility, and the ease of use to be greater than other offerings including AmpleSound’s. Plus the inevitable groove midi packs like EZ Drummer/EZ Keys.

Now the questions.

  1. I see it comes with great effects, however will there be an option for pure DI? A dry signal with no Amp/Cab/FX, so we can ReAmp it later? This is a big deal breaker for me if it doesn’t have a DI mode.
  2. I assume at lauch there will be a couple of expansion packs that cover different kinds of Bass guitars like EZ Keys. Or is it a one size fits all kinda thing for the launch?
  3. I also assume that you will be able to set alternate tunings. Will this also include some lower tunings as well? For instance a Low A, or Low G on a 5 string bass?

This is a plugin that has almost a year before launch, but I am already excited about it. I appreciate any info you can provide.
