Trying to only replace the hi hat

I am trying to replace only the hi hat in ‘hi hat closed tip’ – see pic 1 below – with the hi hat in ‘hit open 3.’ But when I copy ‘hit open 3’ and paste only hi hat into  ‘hi hat closed tip’ what I get is the entire groove is replaced with only hi hat – see pic 2. Kick and snare are cut as well. Please help.

I am running EZD 2 as a plug in within Pro Tools 12, on a MacBook w El Capitan. But the same thing is happening using EZD in stand alone.
