Hi, folks —
My goal with SD3 is to play live from my Roland V-Drums TD-30 module. However I am hearing static and dropouts as I play, making it unusable for my purposes.
Here are some findings and things I tried:
• The issue is unique to SD3; ** it doesn’t happen with EZ Drummer **, even with buffer as small as 64. (It’s the clean sound of EZD that gave me the confidence to fork out for SD3)
• I’ve varied the buffer size on SD3. The static does happen less with larger buffer, but it still happens. (I need a smaller buffer to preserve low latency for live playing.)
• Mac is 2.6 GHz Core i5, with 16 GB RAM with Mojave. Freshly rebooted. Nothing of consequence running. Activity Monitor shows CPU levels low to moderate.
• I tried increasing the number of CPU cores from 4 to 6 (out of 8)
• I tried going down 16 bit samples
• I’ve tried different audio out configurations: headphones on the Mac, audio going out through USB to the TD-30, and audio going through USB to Scarlett 2i4. No avail.
• I’ve only used SD3 in standalone mode.
• I’ve surfed for answers but my experience doesn’t seem to be common out there. The issue looks similar to this: https://www.vdrums.com/forum/advanced/vst-samples/1201447-td-50-sd3-sound-quality-problem
I am concerned because I just shelled out $400 for SD3 plus $100 for an external SSD to host the samples, and so far it’s looking unusable.
What should I try next?
Thank you in advance,
Philip
