Hello Good Groupers,
My Program Manager installer is dead in the water.
Background: Because I was looking for more cymbals, I discovered that my SD3 Library files (Purchased in January) somehow were never installed. Apparently I have been running the library files from my previous app EZDrummer 2. In Program Manager, I clicked to install the SD3 Libraries, but then realized I wasn’t clear where to install them, (More on that later) so I clicked Abort Install. Now the abort process is frozen.
I’ve attached a screenshot of Program Manager. There’s also a screenshot of the frozen abort process, and a screenshot showing where SD3 thinks the libraries are. I’m afraid to go any further, because I could very well muck this up worse(ly).
Possibly related: it looks like the locations of the EZD2 and SD3 files are messed up, either by the aborted install, or by my problematic install of SD3 over EZD2. (This had to do with being unclear where the Library files should be installed when trying to retarget SD3 to an external SSD). I have screenshots of these locations if that would help, (such as Global Library/Application Support, and {HD}/Users/{Me}/Library/Application Support/; and then on the external SSD where the Toontrak Library files are
Is there some way to uninstall the whole mess, or will that make recovering from the failed abort even more difficult?
SO here I am in this Forum, looking for suggestions, help, and coffee.
Thank you very much!
After the aborted Abort is cleared, here’s the next issue, which needs to be resolved before installing the SD3 libraries:
Q1: Im trying to figure out where everything goes. Does the ProgManager “Install Library” process install just the Library folders (which for me will be on my External SSD); or does it also install some core functionality, such as to the {HD name}/Library/Application Support/ folders?
Q2: Where should the SD3 Library files go on the external SSD? I’ve included a screen shot of where SD3 thinks the Libraries are: In the EZD2 folders. But I would like to use the libraries/purchases from my SD3, EZD2, and various add-on packs I’ve purchased. I was lead to believe this is possible? Or maybe just SD3 and the add-on packs?
In the 4th screenshot (of my external SSD), it’s not clear to me if the SD3 library files should live inside an SD3 folder that lives inside the EZD2 parent folder (Highlighted by dark blue line in the screenshot)
/Volumes/MusicLibs/29 Toontrak EZDrummer2/Superior Drummer3/
…Or if the SD3 Folder should be at the same hierarchy level as the EZD2 folder (Just a bit below the blue line in the screenshot)?
/Volumes/MusicLibs/29 Toontrak EZDrummer2/
/Volumes/MusicLibs/29 Toontrak SuperiorDrummer3/
If the second approach above is the correct way, I don’t see how both EZD2, SD3 libraries (& Add-on packs installed under EZD2), could all be used at same time. Or, if it’s not possible to use my purchased products in SD3, then I guess I would store SD3 Libraries at a folder at the same level?
/Volumes/MusicLibs/29 ToonTrak SuperiorDrummer3/
…or third, is there a way to install SD3 Libraries so that EZD2 Libraries aren’t used, but the add-on packs can be used?
…or fourth, Would this involve installing SD3 libraries; then in Program Manager, reinstalling the add-on Packs into the new SD3 location?
Thank you VERY much!!
David

That’s quite an epic tale!
First thing I would do is reboot your MacBook, that should get rid of the stuck installer.
Then I would run the Library Part 1 installer again and choose the uninstall option. It may not uninstall SL-Superiordrummer but it should reset any internal configuration in Product Manager.
Then run the Library Part 1 installer again and use the Browse to navigate to your external drive and install there. This will only install the sample library and small configuration and support files for the sample library. The software itself will reside on your system drive.
There’s no “right” place to install, however I have my Superior Drummer SDXs spread over 3 SSDs so I have created folders on each drive, named accordingly Superior 1,2,3. (I am a simple person). Let us know if that get’s you started.
Because EZD libraries are stored together and Superior Drummer will find them, I don’t think there’s a way to prevent that other than uninstalling them. I actually find it quite useful to have them for layering different kit pieces, but that’s me.

Hi Brad,
Thanks VERY much for the advice. I’ll give those a try. I didnt notice an Uninstall option when the installer first came up. But ill look for it next time. Will post how it goes.
But this does raise the question: Into which folder on the SSD i should install? Ideally, id like to access my EZD2 and add-on pack purchases from within SD3.
Thank you again,
D

Yes SD3 will pickup your EZXs from where they are installed and it doesn’t have to be on the same physical drive as your SD3 samples.
I’m heading out for an hour, but will check back (9;00am dog walking). If you run into any problems, let us know here. We’ll get this sorted out.

Now that I am back and have had time to make an espresso (or 2) and completely review. You may not get the option to uninstall as PM doesn’t think you have a successful installation. In that case you may just get an install and browse option.
Also you should be able to delete the partial install from the frozen/aborted install.

Makes sense, thx. Will try that. Are there other files i should consider for deletion, like around the system folders such as
//Volumes/MacHD/Library/Application Support/
im guessing mucking around there will render SD3 inoperable.
Also guessing the target you suggest on the SSD will mean uninstalling/reinstalling the add-on packs that are currently installed in the EXD2 folders?
thanks !!

I would just delete the SL-SuperiorDrummer file that I highlighted.
The others should be fine where they are. If they working, they’re good. If you want to move your EZDrummer files, that’s another process that we can talk about once you get your Superior Drummer 3 core library sorted out.

Me: Gotcha, thanks so much!!

Thanked by: BradSo i deleted the folder that was from the aborted installs, and ran the installer. SD3 is up and running!
so now its a matter of testing for the EZD3 add-ons (see if they show up in the plugin, and standalone app.) And if they arent available, look at how to install them into SD3.
thanks soo much, Brad. Ill keep you posted.
