Cheaper to order the triple pack from https://www.thomannmusic.com btw. And I bought several individual choose your own SDX on Reverb for $119 each, but don’t see those available anymore – keep an eye out. But yah, I really like Legacy of Rock and Fields of Rock, and use D&D not as much since they are mostly so huge. And I would steer away from the older ones for edrums since they got better over time with articulations – sort them by latest release and stick towards the top.

    Is Decades SDX any good?

For me I didn’t find as many usable/keepable kits in Decades. It’s a bit more jazz/dry/ringing kick drum type of stuff. Not bad tho.

Stories or State of the Art? Which is better? Both sound good in demos but hard to say for sure. leaning towards Stories but state of the art appears  to be newer?

I have used them both and they are both excellent. To tell you which one is better would be a difficult task for me because each of them bring their own kind of energy into a mix. I used State of the Art in my most recent song and it sat nicely between the electric piano and guitars while pushing the song forward.

All I can suggest is that if you are listening to the demos then find something that matches close to what you are doing.

For me, I have yet to really get heavily into mixing but eventually I do plan to start doing some more stuff in reaper. I have mainly been using Reaper to play along to stem tracks of favorites, such as Subdivisions by Rush and misc other songs like Jump (VH) or Smells Like Teen Spirit. But my goal is to get myself a good bass and guitar VST and start playing around with some instrumental tunes. I have only really done like one made up song just to learn basics of Reaper but never really continued with it. I play along to songs AND just jam for practice and fun. What are your personal thoughts on drum factory and reel to reel? They both seem really good.

definitely liking Stories better than state of the Art. got more of that raw rock sound I look for. some nice snares in there.

I agree, Stories is great – also for a more specific sound and maybe less generally useful then some other SDXs. It’s a lot of bright, punchy, higher pitched, and cracky drums – Phil Collins sounding stuff since it’s the same engineer. Genesis is one of my favorite bands so I love it, though I don’t cover their songs much. And, it’s awesome that basically all of the old drum machines/modules like the SP-1200, Linn drum, Simmons, Roland TR-808, etc are included. Again, not always needed, but perfect for the right song.

Well, I don’t really want something deemed ‘less useful’ than other SDX packs. I’m looking more for something that has some variety, similar to reel to reel or drum factory. What would you say goes more hand in hand with those two? Or at least has that tight/fusion/rock flavor? I guess something that covers a wider range of genres from rock, to fusion or alt etc. I just want to make sure when I finally purchase the 3 pack, I’m getting the best ones.

Anyone have Stockholm? That one sounds good too. Or What about Rooms of Hansa? I know that one has a lot of junky presets. but I know all packs can be loaded with just clean kits. So I’m looking for any packs that play well on the clean kits. It’s about the drum sound quality, not how many junky presets they have. LOL

so at this point I need to decide between Stockholm, Stories, State of the Art and Rooms of Hansa.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, but given your fondness for many toms, why not the Hitmaker SDX?  I think it may be what Tom Conner meant to recommend regarding Phil Collins’ sound.  It seems to suit your want for fusion kind of stuff.  While I’m not a fan of many of the snares, and I find the 2 concert tom kits as well as 3 Yamaha kits a bit redundant.  The Tour and Recording Custom kits are a bit similar to me, but the “Storyteller kit” (probably what Tom was thinking of) is quite different at least.

But I love the cymbals in this pack.  Particularly the Sabian HH’s.  The are so bright and defined, I’m sure they’d “cut through any mix” ™.  And the drums are all well recorded of course.  And yeah, I forget about the old drum machine samples.  There has to be some great uses for all those.

SD3 with Real to Reel, Fields of Rock, Death and Darkness, Legacy of Rock, Hitmaker, Drum Factory, Stories, State of the Art, Decades, Jazz Sessions, Stockholm, Hansa, Rock Foundry, Area 33. Plus a few older SDX's and EZX's.
Into: Reaper with Ryzen 5700x, 32GB RAM and assorted SSD's.
Through: Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 Gen2 USB Audio Interface
From: eDRUMin 10 + eDRUMin 8 with assorted Roland and Yamaha pads.
