Hi, especially swing-brush-snare people,
I’m using EZDr3 Jazz EZX in Dorico 6 and have a track set up just for entering and playing back brush snare.
I’ve used that track to play a brush groove out of EZDr3 successfully but would like to find out how I can enter a basic brush swish/swirl feel off my keyboard.
The MIDI notes according to ToonTrack’s list are 66 for Short Drag, 67 Full Circle, 68 Muted and 69 Half Circle and I can hear those sounds when playing those keys.
But when I enter a very basic note brush combo it just plays back as straight snare notes.
Do I have to create new snare instruments in Dorico that contain those names like Short Drag etc?
It’s was a slightly dodgy cumbersome exercise in Finale but I managed to create the odd brush groove for play back.
Any suggestions received with thanks,
George
Try recording into EZD, within Follow Host checked.

Thanked by: GeorgeThanks for your reply Mick.
I’m pretty new at both EZD3 & Dorico and my keyboard skills are basic.
So I usually step my notes in.
Can you explain what you mean by recording into EZD.
I know about Follow Host, because I played a brush groove in Dorico.
Hi Brad,
I use the Jazz Kit with Brush Delight.
EZDr3 is pretty new to me and so is Dorico. I’m a Finale refugee.
So there are many tricks and solutions in both apps that I don’t know about.
I can click on the snare in the jazz kit (14″ Solid Maple Shell – Brushes) and get center hits and rim but can’t get a swirl.
Thanks!

Hi there,
To preview the different articulations in the upper left, expand the preview to show the different articulations:
Expand the articulation to preview all the available ones:

To write different articulations in the Grid Editor Expand the desired kit piece (drum in this case snare)

Thanked by: GeorgeHey Brad, that’s a great help, thanks, quite a few lights went on about what can be done in EZDr3.
I can now make my own brush grooves in EZD but my other aim is to be able to enter a basic brush groove from my keyboard in Dorico.
The half, full circle and short drag MIDI notes are not recognized in Dorico even though I’ve got them mapped to the right notes (F#4 66 / G4 67 / A4 69).
I think it is because those 3 snare note names (Short Drag | Full Circle | Half Circle) don’t exist. So I’m going to create them today and see if it makes a difference.
I’ll keep you posted.
Cheers

Thanked by: BradHi again,
My issues with EZDr3 & Dorico are solved.
I can now enter a brush groove into Dorico from my keyboard and it plays back through the EZD Jazz kit.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated,
George
