All of my drums show up in the mixer but none of the cymbals do. The hihat is there but no crashes or rides.
Core library or an SDX? Using a preset? Do you mean there’s no channels in the mixer for the crashes or rides? Keep in mind that not everything maps the same between BFD and SD3. Do you see the crashes & rides in the SD3 in the drum page and do they react when played by your MIDI? For that matter where is the MIDI – in your daw or in SD3?

In some SDX’s the rides get their own mixer channel strip.

That’s true but the OP is referring to the default S3 Sound Library that doesn’t have a separate ride channel. That’s why I said crash cymbals and not all cymbals.

No, but I know what products users own. It’s why I get paid the big bucks to mod a forum and answer questions.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanDid you use BFD3’s drum map? If so, the cymbals do not correspond to the GM mapping. Make sure you are using one of these two mappings for you BFD3 grooves.

Thanked by: drumjack52 and BradI see the cymbals in the picture of the drumset. I don’t see corresponding channels in the mixer. I don’t understand.
So there aren’t supposed to be separate mixer track for cymbals. I can’t change the panning on them?
OK. I’m a newbie so I apologize for being clueless. So in SD the panning is like in the picture, right? By the way, I’m liking SD so far. I was with BFD for a long time.
Hi,
we’re all newbies at some point, ask away; this Forum is a place to (hopefully) get all the answers.
In the SD3 Core Library, all Cymbals have their ‘Close’ signal in the Stereo ‘OH Dyn’ Microphone/Mixer Channel.

The other Instruments can have their Bleed turned Off in this Channel but not the Cymbals. Their respective Volume can be changed though, as you see in my screen shot above.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, some SDX:s have been recorded with e.g. the Ride Cymbal having its own separate microphone/Mixer Channel.
If you really want to have a specific Cymbal on its own Channel in the Mixer, it is possible but requires some steps.
Right-click the Cymbal in question and navigate to ‘Route Instrument Microphones…’
This will bring up the selected Cymbals possible Close and Bleed routings. Apart from turning off a bleed signal you can click to the right of the ‘Close’ signal and select ‘Create New Channel’ at the bottom.
This will insert a new Channel in the Mixer with only the Close signal from the Cymbal, no Bleed. All Bleed from this Cymbal is still routed to the various microphones around the Kit, unless you turn them off or re-route them.
Your new Channel can be re-named by double-clicking its name in the Mixer and this Channel can be independently panned in the Mixer.
Things to bear in mind:
– this will not change how the Kit was recorded so if you pan a Cymbal that was recorded on the left side of the Kit to the right side, the Cymbal’s Bleed will still behave as how it was recorded, unless you create new Channels for the Bleeds as well.
– if you have EQ/FX/Sends on the OH Dyn Channel, you will have to copy these to your new Channel(s), plus I would check the routing of the Mixer Channel if you are starting from a Preset.

John

Thanked by: Shen G and drumjack52Welcome to the major leagues. There’s a few of us here that were with BFD from back in the day. There’s quite the learning curve with SD3 but stick with it – it’s worth the effort. The bleed in SD3 alone is worth the price of admission.
