When you click on a kit piece in the SD3 drums screen the hit is with a constant velocity of 127. That’s why they’re loud as compared to playing with an e-kit. You need to check the velocity settings being output from the e-kit. I don’t quite understand your first question – are you using MIDI grooves in SD3 to trigger your e-kit drums?

Thank you for the reply. I will play around with the velocity settings on the output to the e-kit.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I am not using midi grooves. Simply replacing the V71 samples with the more superior (pun intended)  VST’s in SD3.

    Truly appreciate the guidance.

1st step is to make sure you are getting 127 on what would be your hardest hits, or maybe even less than hardest. I tend to do it a little less as I want a full 127 on backbeats. Just don’t go too far otherwise you lose dynamics and ghost notes. Roland modules tend to be far more forgiving over trigger settings. SD3 is very dynamic and will play exactly was is input. What are you using as an audio interface? If you are using the v71 you can actually up the usb return volume (I think as you can on the td50x and other modules)  also SD3 has a master fader you can turn up. The kits that come with SD3 do tend to be a bit quieter than the expansion SDXs

Thank you Mark. I have tweaked the velocity as per your recommendations. The overall impact was nominal. But you are bang on in the volume with SD3 kits versus the expansion packs.

Interestingly, I also run EZDrummer 3 and the volume levels with the bundled kits and expansions are noticeably louder.

    I’m using a Rodecaster Pro 2 as an Interface/Mixer.

    Thanks again for the knowledge.

Did you figure out your volume issue’s?

I just plugged in the v51 and having the same problem.

Do I just go on the roland sound module and raise the velocity?

No just raise sd3 volume once you have set the triggering up correctly on the module. SD3 does have a volume control. The base library does tend to be a bit quiet but you just need to turn it up. Also if you are using the module to monitor then you can set the usb input higher.

You can actually change the velocitycurve within superior, so no need to change your module if you’re happy with what it does. I fact, you can even change the velocity for each component individually.
