What exact revision of PT 12 are you running? High Sierra compatibility wasn’t added until the last revision of PT and that was PT 12.8.3. I know there’s a vast difference between what a developer says is compatible and what will run. For example I run PT 2021.6 on OSX 10.13.6 and the earliest Avid shows is Mac OS compatible is Big Sur. For that matter what exact revision of High Sierra are you using? You may be dancing right on the edge of things working as am I.

That being said go to Mac HD (your computer)/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins and right click on Superior Drummer 3.aaxplugin and select ‘get info’ and a little window will popup. For example when I do that I get a created line showing a date of Wednesday November 5, 2025 which is the date I updated SD3 to the latest revision. You should see something similar. When you did the update did you do it through the Product Manager and did you allow it to update every instance of SD3? Even though I mainly use ProTools I also sometimes use Digital Performer and it can use both vst and au format plugins. Also check to make sure you don’t have duplicate installs of SD3.

Thanks for your time and for the reply!

i can‘t tell which exact Pro Tools version it is i need to check it in the studio.
I updated through the Product Manager. I did several uninstall and install steps after SSD3 stopped working but without any success. I installed every instance and tried to install aax only.
It worked for years on my system. I even went back and installed the older version of SSD 3.4.1. but that didnt help either.

The file has the same date than yours 5th November. I couldnt find any other installs of SSD3 on my system as well. Its very strange as a lot of people seemed to have that problem and found a solution but nothing worked for me.

    thanks again!

    Hi Ralf,

    please try the following:

    go to {Mac HD}/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/
and manually delete the ‘Superior Drummer 3.aaxplugin’.

Next, go to ~/Library/Preferences/Avid/Pro Tools/ and delete the InstalledAAXPlugIns file

Next launch the Product Manager app, re-download the latest update, do a Custom install and make sure the AAX is checked.

    Launch Pro Tools.

    BR,
    John

Expanding on John’s post, delete any plug-in instances within the ~/Library/Audio/Plugins folder.
