Is there a way to sync EZ Drummer Standalone 3 to an external MIDI clock source?
I am sending a MIDI clock from an MPC One via MIDI into my audio interface (Behringer UMC 1820). The active MIDI in settings in EZ Drummer Audio/MIDI settings is set to use the UMC 1820. The MIDI indicator in the bottom right corner is green when the MPC One is playing but EZ Drummer is not starting/stopping when the MPC One starts/stops playing and the tempo is never in sync with the MPC One if I start EZDrummer manually and change the tempo on the MPC track.
I have tried using Reaper but the external sync features in that DAW are unusable – the DAW has a delay in starting playback and no matter the settings, I cannot get it to sync properly and the DAW is constantly chasing the clock. I have Ableton 9 and while that seems to sync and perform very well, I am limited to using EZDrummer 2. I assume it’s a limitation of an older version of Live vs a newer version of EZDrummer.
Ideally, I would like to simply use the standalone version of EZDrummer 3 to write drum tracks, sampling the audio on the MPC One. Is there anyway to get external syncing to work without using a DAW?
Hi,
as you guessed, Ableton Live 9 does not support VST3 plug-ins and EZdrummer 3 is too new to have a VST2 version. Updating to a newer version of Live isn’t an option?
There is currently no way to have the EZdrummer 3 Standalone sync to external MTC/MIDI Clock without some external software.

That is disappointing to hear, but I guess a limitation of the software so I will look for a work around, maybe some sort of third party MIDI syncing software on Windows.
As a work around, I have been setting the MPC project and EZDrummer to the same BPM, arming the MPC One’s sampler and hitting play on EZDrummer 3 – sampling each part manually and adding the sampled drum parts into my tracks. It’s not as clean as syncing everything with MIDI but it allows me use EZDrummer in MPC projects without using a DAW.
Now if only there were a plugin version of EZDrummer for MPC standalone, that would be a game changer…
