Just wondering if the TT folks wanted to comment on this?..
Im nosey … ha ha …
Thanks
Superior Drummer appears to be a dead product.
No upgrades since 2017?
Toontrack is only upgrading lower end EZ series.
I purchased EZD 3 for the bandmate feature.
I use EZD 3 more on my portable laptop because my laptop ran out of disk space so could not load the SD packs.
EZD 3 is much smaller and does a great job just getting grooves and rhythms and the song creator is identical to SD3.
I think it’s very unlikely that anyone from TT would comment, not a thing folks do in software development. The best thing maybe is to look at their other major (X.0.0) releases and see what the average gap is between them. For Superior drummer we only have two major releases to date: SD2 came out in 2008 (they never released SD1), and SD3 in 2017. So based on that 9 year gap, we might expect to see SD4 around 2017 + 9 = 2026.
DWe six piece kit, Roland BT-1s/eDRUMin, RME Fireface interface, JH Audio IEMs w/Fiio Amp, Porter & Davies transducer, Razer 16 laptop, SD3 (State of the Art, Stockholm, Hitmaker, Legacy of Rock, Decades, Death & Darkness, Fields of Rock, Stories)
Hi,
Toontrack never “hints” or post anything beforehand here on the Forum. NDA’s and stuff. When something is communicated, it’s done officially via the main site and/or email.
Suggesting it’s a dead product because there isn’t a completely new version of the software out seems strange to me. I think there are about two SDX releases per year which suggests the opposite.

SD3 is far superior to ezdrummer. The packs are better and the editing and edrum settings set it apart. I wouldn’t use bandmate or the midi packs anyway. SD3 is regularly updated as well. I’m sure an SD4 or whatever it may be called will appear at some point. I guess then those with ezdrummer will be moaning that they will want features from it.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

If its not ready for a 2025 landing they release sd4 100% 2026 for sure.
Sd3 ist dead coz the main libary released 8 years ago?
Tell that omnisphere user^^
Ez Drummer 2 releaaed 2014 …
Version 3 exact 8 years later
Sd2 2008 release…sd3 2017….9 years
Ezkeys 2012(?) Release version 2 releaaedate 2023…..11 years…
You notice sometthing?
Great ✌️
Last sdx released end of 2024 by the way…
So all toontrack products have 8 to 12 years which is great.
So you dont have to pay update bucks every 2 years and they have to release a great product bevore its getting old.
Sd4 will be out 2025….or at least until 2026
Last sdx released end of 2024 by the way…
No real pattern to this. Some years they seem to release two SDX’s near the end of the year and some years they are spread out. There’s also the rare year that they release three SDXs.

Yes. Ez is great for demos. But sd3 is the absolute champ and a at least upgrading it with ez3s new UI features would be a nice touch. Also you cannot edit individual articulations in ez. Which is a big drawback for edrums
Well, Superior September has just begun without an announcement for SD4. 🙁
What really bothers me about SD3 is that, although it is the flagship product, EZd3 still has the more functional Grid Editor. Why hasn’t SD3 been updated in this regard? What is Toontrack’s thinking here? Am I supposed to use EZd3 to create the grooves and then laboriously move everything back and forth between EZd3 and SD3 so that I can use the SDX libraries? As a customer, I expect the flagship product to be at least on par with the slimmed-down version in all respects. I was therefore hoping that SD4 would be released and close this gap. But I guess we’ll have to wait at least another year.

Hi, SD3 does indeed have a Grid Editor. Hit the ‘P’ key or double-click a groove on the SD3 Track.

Thank you for your reply, but I think we’ve misunderstood each other. I do know that SD3 also has a grid editor. What I meant was that the one in EZd3 has more functions (e.g. Humanize) than the one in SD3. Tap2Find and Edit Play Style are also better in EZd3. As Toontrack’s flagship product, shouldn’t SD3 be at least on par with the entry-level product in all aspects? I find it frustrating that Toontrack has never added the improved functionality of EZd3 to SD3.
I think software like SD is quite complex. To make reliable/resilient releases in a faster pace would require much much more resources. SD3 is already a top notch product and to reason SD4, it just hast to be much better, a pretty heavy task which takes time. I would guess it will introduce some kind of AI, either for song creation, or even for sound processing eg. transitions of hihats which would be awesome, but I think using SD for live performances is still a little bit “niche” which would make that kind of feature not a priority?
SD3 is great, but I’m really hoping for some more self generating drums. I wish that all or any parts of the kit could be randomized every measure, to give an improvised feel instead of midi drum parts.
I would even love a randomize button just to spit out completely unorthodox drum parts. Lock in parts that work, but keep randomizing other parts. Or maybe have one or two parts (kick, snare) that are a pattern, but randomize everything else. Lock in each part until you generate something that no midi drum pack would throw at you.
Don’t get me wrong, I love SD3, but it seems rather uninspired at times. It would be nice if there were some experimental aspects to it.
