EZkeys 2.1.2 is now available to download using the Product Manager or from the ‘My Products’ area in your Toontrack account. Please note that version 2.1.2 is required for the support of EZkeys sound expansions (EKXs) released from this point forward (Q2 2025).
CHANGES
General
“50%” has been added to the available GUI scales.
When String Machine EKX is loaded, all velocity controls are replaced with expression controls (just like in Session Organ).
Song Track
In the Time Signature editor, the time signature blocks now have right-click menus.
The tempo button is now disabled when Follow Host is active.
In the chord wheel, the plus and minus buttons for Inversion are now enabled even if Automatic mode is on. Clicking them switches to Manual mode.
Having multiple chords selected, changing the Inversion now changes it by the same relative number of steps for each chord.
In the chord wheel, b9#9 chords can now be entered with text.
Keys Tab
An Instrument panel is now available in all libraries (that did not already have one), showing the Sustain, Sostenuto and Soft pedals.
Grooves Tab
Filter selection logic has been updated. Mainly, clicking an already selected filter will now deselect it if it is the only selected filter in the column, but if there are multiple, the clicked filter will become the only selected filter.
Grid Editor
The Auto function of Swing Resolution has been improved to analyze the overall resolution of the selection instead of always using the smallest resolution found.
Bandmate
Cmd-Alt on Mac and Alt on Windows can now be used to temporarily use the other editing tool.
A new “standard groove” is now added to the search results (at the top) in some cases.
Accessibility
In the Grooves tab, the filter columns and the result rows are now accessible.
Installation
On Mac, deleting a plug-in or the standalone from disk and running the software installer will no longer deselect it by default on the Customize page. To stop installing a certain plug-in format, you will now need to run the uninstaller first, then deselect the format in the installer.
BUG FIXES
General
In Apple hosts on Apple silicon Macs, the mouse cursor could in some cases become stuck being the wrong kind of cursor, for example in the Grid Editor after duplicating notes using Alt-drag.
On Mac, opening the plug-in window in certain hosts could cause a crash if the window size had previously been set very, very large.
In Pro Tools, trying to switch to a larger GUI scale could in some cases cause a crash.
Controls controlled by MIDI Learn while the plug-in window was closed did not always show the correct values when the window was opened again.
Effect knob movements (parameter automation curves) are now easier to record in DAWs using Touch or Latch mode.
The asterisk next to the preset name (indicating a modification) was incorrectly removed by “Rescan User Presets” and some other menu commands.
Audio Engine
Using a host that can send negative sample positions (like Cubase) no longer causes cracks and pops when playback is started at such negative times.
Song Track
When the bass note for a chord was changed, it would in some cases be placed too close to the second lowest note.
Fixed an issue where notes beginning just before a chord were not considered part of the chord and were thus not affected by a change of that chord.
Clicking on the already selected chord in the chord wheel would in some cases modify the MIDI on the track, if Auto-Inversion was on.
Chord analysis has been improved in regard to sustained notes.
When MIDI was dragged under chords or pasted on existing grooves, it was not adjusted to syncopated chords.
Moving chords so that notes (syncopations) are moved along should no longer cause any overlaps of notes.
Splitting chords should no longer move any notes.
Closing the chord wheel now also stops the chord preview playback.
Dragging chords from the chord wheel without MIDI below the chord would omit any chord extensions (unless the extensions were newly selected).
Writing “m13” in the chord textbox would change the chord to m7add13.
When using “Replace MIDI” or “Suggest Chords,” “Adjust Notes to Scale” is now automatically enabled for non-diatonic chords if “Keep Melody/Ostinato” is on.
With the “Restrict Recording to Loop Area” option on, starting recording inside the loop area but not at the beginning of it would make the red block and the recorded notes be shown at wrong positions until the end of the loop was reached (or the recording was stopped).
When recording is stopped with some keys still pressed, note offs for those will now be added at the end of the recording.
Recording with the song track minimized would not add any notes to the track.
Recording and then stopping when the red recording block had started to overlap a pre-existing MIDI block could cause the recorded notes to not be added to the song track (as well as lead to various issues with the pre-existing block).
Double-clicking a MIDI block when the Suggest Chords view is open will now close Suggest Chords and open the Grid Editor, as expected.
“Select Containing Folder in Grooves” should now work properly even after opening a project on a different computer or after performing “Restore MIDI Database” in Settings.
In the MIDI import dialog, the option to import time signature is now always available if the MIDI file contains time signature changes.
In the time signature editor, the right-click menu option for removing selected time signatures is now enabled/disabled in the correct scenarios.
Edit Play Style
The octave control could in some case leave notes ringing between chords not transposed.
In Session Organ or String Machine, when Expression is added for the first time via Edit Play Style on a MIDI block starting on the first bar, the new value is now set relative to the current value of the expression pedal.
Grooves Tab
Excluding a folder will no longer disable all filters.
The list of suggested words when writing in the search field is no longer reversed with every letter typed.
Previewing MIDI files will now properly set CC values that were activated before the current playhead time.
Tap2Find
While recording, if a key is still pressed when the end of the loop is reached, it will now get a “note off” there.
Grid Editor
The chord wheel can now be opened in a detached Grid Editor.
The grid editor time bar did not show triplets when a project with triplet resolution selected was loaded.
The filled graphics for the Length slider now start from the middle (like the Swing slider).
The Exclude feature in the Select menu should now work properly.
Duplicating a muted note using Alt/Ctrl-drag would unmute the original note.
Duplicating notes using Alt/Ctrl-drag no longer re-humanizes the new notes.
In CC and pitch editors, tooltips would stop working after a mouse press on a node with a tooltip (until the mouse was moved out from the view).
Sometimes, notes would not be graphically updated when sliders in the velocity editor were used.
Playing in the DAW with Follow Host on so that the song track length was extended did not graphically update and expand the Grid Editor.
Bandmate
The genre list is now alphabetically sorted (with the exception of Pop/Rock/Country and Generic, which are on top).
Changing velocity would in some cases change other things too, such as octave.
Velocity and Swing knobs was not reset by double click.
When new chords were added with the Chord Tool in Bandmate, Auto-Inversion and Adjust Notes to Scale were not applied.
Dragging the Bandmate output groove to the song track should position it better now in some cases.
The audio waveform was not drawn correctly if zoomed in enough.
Auto-Inversion was not applied on chords when the key was changed in Bandmate.
Moving the source audio/MIDI could create chords with lots of extensions.
Deleting all chords under the source audio/MIDI and then trying to drag it would cause a crash.
Accessibility
On Mac, improved accessibility for editable labels (when they don’t have focus), so that VoiceOver says the text and the element title instead of just “edit text.”
Using the main tab buttons no longer moves keyboard focus to the opened view. Keyboard events are forwarded to the main view of the opened tab.
