    Hi there,

    Download and install the sound libraries from Toontrack Product Manager.

    Part 1 will give you the option to do a Custom install if you want to install the libraries to a separate drive.

    The only thing missing from the SD3 product page is an instruction to download and install the Product Manager elsewise everything one needs is right there. Maybe someone from Toontrack could add it there? Actually the needed info is in the FAQ page but I wonder how many people (especially newbies) go there?

    Yes, even though it shows up under the “Products” tab, for the new user there’s no context. Maybe even put it as a “System Requirement” on each Product Page. I dunno, but I see your point.

    There is a set of initial instructions that ToonTrack provides either when you purchase or in an email after purchase is complete. It specifically states to download and install the product manager. I believe it also provides a link.

    I would say that from there, the product manager pretty much guides the user as to what needs to be done.

    Jord: You’re assuming purchasers actually read their emails. Some people are in a hurry to use their new purchase that they can’t be bothered to read their emails. Even if they did that doesn’t excuse Toontrack from making things a LOT more clearer on the product page – that’s where a lot of people get their info from. If things were as clear as you think they are there wouldn’t be posts here asking why when someone opens SD3 they don’t have any sounds or they downloaded the Core library but still no sounds in SD3. That’s because they didn’t install them. There’s been a few posts like that lately. That’s the one fault TT has and that’s not making things clearer. If that means doing so in multiple places then so be it.

    Then, I have to ask the question: if you believe that they won’t read the email then what makes you believe that they will read whatever is on a webpage? There are numerous forum posts that illustrate this example.

    Because the webpage is the first point of contact; email is secondary. People tend to focus on that first point of contact. It’s like one of the cardinal rules of product placement – grab the customer’s eyeballs first. Second – make it easy for the customer to get what they want. Ever wonder why when you go to a store that certain products are placed where they are on shelves? It’s because the store is trying to get a customer to buy a specific product.

    It’s all about psychology.

    You are correct in that the web page is the point of contact. However, if you believe that people read an entire webpage, you are mistaken. The Psychology of majority of people who go to webpages is that they will try to find what they are looking for within the area known as the “upper fold“. if they can’t find what they are looking for in the first 30 seconds, they move on. The is one of the main reasons ToonTrack will try to get your email address within that time period

    Furthermore, psychology dictates, that the majority people pay more attention to their emails because it is information delivered to them, and are often more treated with a sense of urgency. in the case of ToonTrack I only presented you with a little snippet of the email. The rest of it was a receipt for an expansion that I purchased. It’s a well known fact in the internet economy that email addresses are considered currency.

    So as much as you would like to believe that putting everything on a page so that everyone can access would make it easier than email, it’s simply not the case in this day and age.

    Jord: I don’t know how you can believe that last sentence you wrote but whatever. I don’t know what you have against making things easier for people but having everything on one page would definitely make it easier for a LOT of people no matter the day and age. Sadly you are just as I remember you from all those years ago.

    Jack, this is 30 years of doing this stuff doing the talking. I have studied and worked with the best and brightest and have developed for big name companies as part of my day job. And that’s just a part of it. That’s how I can say it. I’m not trying to be difficult with you. I’m presenting to you the facts about the internet economy. And trust me, you wouldn’t want to walk the last 10 years in my shoes to know far I am from the person you think you knew.

    Allow me to add that, well, indeed, I don’t find a text about the need to download and install the Product Manager in the specific web page of SD3. I give that. But under “download configuration” in that page the install procedure, with alternatives, is explained with high detail. I myself followed that when I installed SD3 some months ago.
