Hi guys!
Loving my new TD-27KV2 kit with SD3. I’ve set up everything to taste, but since I am only an intermediate drummer who has played digital drums 98% of the time, I naturally wonder what to map on the three ride zones. I assume edge is edge, of course. Are the “Bow Tip 1” and “Bow Tip 2” the ones that need to be assigned on the bow itself, according to the numbering? I’m also not sure if I should choose “Bell Tip” or “Bell Shank.” I also see there is a section for “Secondary Articulations,” and this confuses me a bit further.
In short summary, there are only five zones on my ride, but a lot of articulations to choose from. I’m not sure which ones are the most natural-sounding?
I also think that the sound coming from the ride hits are generally a bit too quiet, and when I hit harder, it doesn’t go up that much in volume. Adjusting “Soft Note” doesn’t seem to help the dynamics — it only compresses it even more and does not sound very dynamic. Same with velocity-curve. This seems to be an SD3 issue, because when I check the MIDI-triggering on the TD-27 module itself, the hits are pretty similar to the other crashes, so no hardware fault as far as I can see. But maybe that’s how rides are supposed to sound? Quiet, no dynamics and squeaky-harsh annoying? 🙂
