Release notes for EZmix 3.2.0

EZmix 3.2.0 is now available to download using the Product Manager or from the ‘My Products’ area in your Toontrack account. Please note that version 3.2.0 is required for the support of EZmix packs released from this point forward (Q1 2025).

CHANGES

General

  • Webshop Presets: Preset packs not installed can be browsed and previewed in EZmix 3, given an internet connection. The preview limitation is that the sound periodically fades out.
  • The Help menu contains an option to automatically check for updates (of EZmix 3 and all installed preset packs) – or you can manually start an update check.
  • Support for a new Type tag, “AI Signal Chain Capture,” has been added. It means that the preset contains one or more effects that have been captured and modelled using the Neural Amp Modeller technology – basically the same as “AI Amp Capture” except that there is no amplifier among these effects.
  • A keyboard shortcut has been added for toggling the metronome (default ‘K’).
  • Keyboard shortcuts for History Back/Forward are now global (can be used anywhere).
  • A splash screen has been added in the plug-ins. It is displayed only during the time that the window would not yet be opened in previous versions.
  • A 50% scale option has been added.
  • The ‘Medium’ window size (default keyboard shortcut ‘Shift+E’) is now slightly larger.

Effect Controls

  • Preset controls with discrete settings will now snap into their positions.
  • Support for an “Eco” mode for AI Amp Capture and AI Signal Chain Capture presets has been added. In that mode, a more lightweight AI model is used, resulting in lower CPU usage at the cost of (possibly) lower sound quality. If the loaded preset has this option, it can be found to the right of the Mix control in a “Quality” menu.

Preset List

  • The width of the preset list can now be changed.
  • In small window sizes where the Preset List is a tab of its own, the preset pack icons are now located to the left in the list instead of to the right.

Rack

  • A Loudness Compensation feature has been added for comparing before/after at the same perceived loudness level. The toggle is available at the bottom of the Rack only when a Master preset is loaded. Loudness Compensation is semi-dynamic: When activated, loudness is measured for about 3 s and a static gain offset is set. Whenever a big enough change in audio dynamics is detected, a new gain offset is transitioned to.
  • The global bypass parameter now has a corresponding button at the bottom of the rack. Note that some DAWs have a separate bypass button/parameter for the plug-in.
  • The keyboard shortcut that toggled bypass for all slots now instead toggles the global bypass.
  • Some guitar/bass presets tagged with multiple genres may get a different rack background image now, because the priority order of genres has been adjusted.

Filters

  • The filter column headers have a larger font now.
  • The text search field now supports enclosing multiple words by double quotes to search for an exact match of that phrase. If you enter multiple words without quotes, it will (as before) search for presets that match all of those words but they do not necessarily have to occur next to each other.

Tuner

  • A Mute button has been added, so that tuning can be done silently.
  • A keyboard shortcut has been added for opening/closing the Tuner (default ‘T’).

Settings

  • An option has been added (in a new Performance tab) for disabling multithreaded processing of AI Amp Capture and AI Signal Chain Capture presets.

Standalone

  • Added detection of loud spikes in the standalone. The auto-mute threshold can be configured in Settings.

Accessibility

  • The keyboard shortcuts for switching to Filters, Similarity Map, Preset List and Effect Controls (default keys ‘1’-‘4’) will now move keyboard focus to the corresponding section even if it is already visible, so you can for example press ‘3’ to immediately be able to use arrow keys to switch presets in the Preset List.
BUG FIXES

General

  • Changing presets would take more than a second if the plug-in was bypassed (at least in some hosts).
  • Changing the GUI scale in one plug-in instance would not affect the window size (but only the scale) of other instances.
  • On Mac, in scales other than 100%, text did not have exactly the intended width (kerning), in some cases causing for example button texts to not fit.
  • The divider in the Type column was not drawn in the correct place if installed packs did not contain both AI-Assisted and AI Amp Capture tags.
  • Importing an EZmix 2 project now properly updates the preset list to match the selected tags in the project.

Effect Controls

  • Preset control tooltips can now show if they control general LFOs (and what those control) or if they toggle Sync for a time parameter.
  • When a User Preset was saved and it was an AI-assisted preset that had analyzed captured audio, the current settings were not completely saved (normalization factors and internal ranges for the preset controls).

Preset List

  • The Included Effects info icon (if enabled) now reserves less space than before, so that more text fits.
  • The Included Effects popup could miss to list an effect in certain cases.

Rack

  • “Remove Preset Slot” and “Clear Preset Slot” did not clear the audio capture (for AI-assisted presets) in the slot.
  • Duplicating a rack slot did not apply the preset control values correctly, so the new slot could sound differently.

Filters

  • The filter chips now retain the order in which they were added.
  • Selecting or deselecting a row in the Effect column would in some cases scroll the row out of sight.

Similarity Map

  • Fixed some issues with how the map view moved when the window was resized.

Accessibility

  • Toggling a filter chip (one of the items in the Filter Bar) on/off should now keep focus on that chip.
  • The buttons for locking Input level and Mix in Effect Controls were not accessible unless the mouse was over them.
  • Filter column clear buttons are now accessible.
  • Moving/hiding/showing filter columns did not properly update the accessibility information.
  • On Mac, improved accessibility for editable labels (when they don’t have focus), so that VoiceOver says the text and the element title instead of just “edit text.”
