I’m having a strange issue with the td-27kv and digital snare/positional sensing in sd3. When I hit the digital snare, there’s no snare crack sound. It gets cut out, or is reduced anyway. It doesn’t matter what kit or what snare I’ve loaded in sd3. It’s as if I’ve enabled the envelope and set the attack to 10ms. That would give the same result when not using the Roland digital snare.
I have an eDRUMin and Hawk brand snare. When I use those, this issue isn’t there.
It’s frustrating because I want to use the digital snare and take advantage of the positional sensing, but this issue totally eliminates the authenticity of it.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. The snare works just fine with the stock module sounds. The issue only seems to exist in sd3. I don’t know what to make of it.
I’ve tried a few different Roland presets but that didn’t help.
I also tried plugging the snare directly into a usb port on my MacBook, and that does take care of the issue, but I think that’s because it doesn’t utilize the positional sensing when connected that way.
I’ve checked the midi monitor and don’t see anything out of the ordinary. When I hit the snare, it sends the midi note for snare zone trigger, plus the cc values.
The TD-27 module is on version 2.0 firmware, and the snare is on 1.11.
Any ideas? I’d love to hear if any other digital snare/sd3 owners have experienced the same thing. If you haven’t noticed it, and have a non-digital snare lying around, could you try comparing? I guess I do wonder if it’s “supposed” to be this way or something. But it really doesn’t seem very authentic to me. If you hit a real snare, or even lightly tap it, there’s a noticeable crack sound if it’s tuned properly.
I am using a Roland V71 as my module with SD3 (and EZD3) and the Digital Snare. I have noticed that when I load certain V71 kits (with local off in the module, so the V71 sounds themselves do not play) the response to my playing in SD3 is distorted. For instance the 2 brushes kits in the V71 give very bad snare results in SD3 and EZD3.
So what I did: I created a new kit (in my case it is at number 200) with neutral settings. I called it “SuperiorDrum”. So every time I use SD3 or EZD3 I select this kit.
Hope this helps you.
I can try that, but I wouldn’t think the module would send different midi data to sd3 depending on which kit you have selected on the module. ..and same for whether local control is on or off.
