If you loaded the midi into SD3, you should be able to split it in parts, making cuts. This way you could set the power hand individually.

If you don’t want to split the midi, maybe it can be done with automation, but here I am still too beginner and at the time I am still not in position to give advice, as I still haven’t worked with automation within SD.

Select the bits you want in the chorus and drag them to the ride. It sounds like you are selecting every note to the right hand side.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thanks!  Yeah I have the parts in midi correct and all set.  The verse is on the hats and the ride in choruses, I just wanted to know how automate the Power Hand option/feature within SD3.  I am know how to move it, just not automate it.  This is what I am trying to figure out.

    Thanks all!

There is no automation as such. The power hand is determined by the MIDI notes you are using. If you want to change your power hand, you use MIDI notes pertaining to another kit piece. The above answers of segmenting your regions and adjusting your MIDI as such within them are correct.

How change you automate the power hand from the hi hat in the verses to the ride in the choruses? I have the midi split out so it plays the right notes but the power hand option doesn’t change. If I pull the power hand from the ride in the chorus rocks hit hats, it doesn’t go back to being on the ride in the choruses. Is there a way to automate it to make the changes I am looking for?

Again, there is no automation. Power hand is determined by the notes assigned to your kit pieces as illustrated in this screenshot.

You have tell Superior Drummer what kit pieces to play either by selecting the notes in the Grid Editor or using Edit Play Styles and moving the Power Hand to a new kit piece.

If you moved your Power Hand and it stayed there for the next section, then you either selected both regions or you didn’t split your regions.

    Hi Jord,

This is helpful.  I haven’t been using SD3 for very long and this mauve why I am a little confused.

As you can see onu screenshots below.  It is driven by the hi hat, but the power hand is on the ride in the edit window.  I I move the power hand icon to the hi hat for that part, it doesn’t move back to the ride, as it should in the chorus.

As you said, I maybe not splitting it.  What exactly does that mean.  I have everything in is correct lane.

    Thanks again for your help!

Use the Scissors Tool on the Song Track to cut the region. For example, if you have an 8 bar “Verse” and after the 4th bar you want to change the Power Hand from hats to ride, scissor the Verse region at bar 5. Select that new section. Switch the Power Hand on the Edit Play Style accordingly.
